I don’t follow MLP so it may already exist, but it would be amusing if such a romance existed in canon.

I know there’s a slavery allegory, which is dark as fuck for what I was expecting.
An evil wizard kidnapped some ponies to mine gems for him, going blind in the dark.
He tries to enslave the cowgirl one so she fucking kicks him off a cliff to fall to his death, shoves his gems into the eyes of the blind slaves, and leads them to her homeland to live. Their other stories are all about eating magic food, so I choose to go with “they all started doing drugs to cope with the PTSD”.
So that’s the story of why some MLP ponies have bedazzling gems for eyes.
