Foalout 4 - Sanctuary Hills chapter 11 - Lothmar

The sole survivor proceeds to cut through the fence to the fields pondering expansions while leaving enough space for crop rotations as he makes his way to the ice box where he’d stored the Cod from earlier today. With a little prep you scaled, decapitated, gutted and removed the components you wanted and bucketed what you didn’t. You proceeded to break the ribs from the spine to allow the whole fish to lay flat like a displayed butterfly. After a quick cleanup it was on to seasoning. You missed the options you used to have before the bombs but you still had salt and some savory herbs you scavenged along your travels like rosemary and thyme. Heading to a small area of fencing you proceeded to nail the butterflied fish to the post so that it could cook above an open campfire fire. With a lack of pepper and other spicy seasonings you decided to brush a bit of Brahmin butter on for a little extra crispness and flavor.

You set a timer on your pipboy and proceeded to start processing some liver oil. You check your pre prepared components and assemble a tower with a sediment filter at the base, with an all-natural contaminant filter totem polled above that was fed by a Decanter above it and the very top being where the oil would release from the livers. You’d need to add some antioxidants at the end to preserve freshness as well.

While that ran you set up a similar rig for later and returned to your cooking plank. On arrival you smirked at the trio of furry faces poking around the corner of a nearby building sniffing the smokey savory scents. Upon seeing you they doubled back and you pretended as if they had successfully avoided your perception but even if they had initially their chatter on the way back to the tree would have clearly given them away in such a situation. You chuckled slightly and plated your fish as you began to peel out the bones, these you would grind down later to mix into the crop soil. You set a bit of flakey fish aside unsure if he should share it with the fluffies but he figured it was all a learning curve with a chimera like entity but also imagined it would be okay since he had a sneaking suspicion they used some human dna in the project to achieve certain ends. Afterall every third-generation synth was a descendant of Shaun Afterall so you wouldn’t be surprised if a little bit of you was in every fluffy

. . . Shut up.

You crack open a watermelon that you’d put in the fridge to cool off. You remove about half from one half and proceed to add some mix-ins for a cocktail while you enjoy the cool fruit bits. The other half you split into thirds and proceed to take to the den. The sun was going down and soon the street light would come on, you didn’t keep many but it felt comforting seeing a few in the distance from your window.
“Daddeh back, wiff Nummies?” Phanes exclaimed as the first to detect him.

“Indeed I am. Brought a little snack before bed.” You sit down and enjoy a series of hugs and snuggles from your fluffies as you hand feed them bits of fish before letting them go at their wedges of watermelon as their own pace. You sit and chat as the sun goes down and get a comfortable buzz going from your watermelon cocktail until the steet light comes on. Daisy had been allowing you to examine the foals, you guess with the sneaking suspicion she was fishing for names.

The Orange colt was filling out a little faster then the others like a little pumpkin but no way were you going to call them pumpkin even if they grew a green mane. The green Pegasus filly seemed sleek but healthy and you were looking forward to palming them by the belly in the future and making zooming noises like a child playing with a toy plane. The dull red unicorn Filly was slightly smaller then the others but seemed otherwise healthy save for a bit of clinginess that made you smile for a moment but pondered if they were being neglected or were just simply needy. The white alicorn colt was only slightly smaller then orange but was less chubby and you had the feeling they might be the largest if raised correctly. Before you hand them back you take out the detector wand from your pocket and give a slight wave around the foals. . . You check the batteries and reset the wand and give a second wave.

‘Undetectable!?’ You thought nervously. You’d need to make a report on this if it hadn’t been observed yet as it could have major consequences for the institutes recapture efforts. Hopefully the components assembled themselves in the unit as they got older and acquired nutrition to biologically assemble but you doubted that.

You pass the foals back to Daisy so they could return to their nest. If you weren’t feeling so nervous you probably would have sung something or told them a story but instead you simply gave them each a kiss on the forehead and told them ‘goodnight’. You got up and signaled for smarty to dispose of the rinds in the compost pile. The brain powered robot begrudgingly muttered out its voice module as it picked up the mess.

“I need to shoot something.” You say to yourself as you go to wash your hands and head outside to walk the perimeter of the island and riverside. After a few hours of purging local wildlife to make the area safer for potential fluffies you made your way back with some salvaged mirelurk components. You’d filter their livers like the cod and run a comparison to see if mirelurks would serve as a suitable substitute nutritionally since it would be a lot easier to acquire.

Part of you just wanted to go to bed at this point and resolve things in the morning… The other part of you was already stripping your clothing, applying some powder and putting on one of your Chinese stealth suite while debating when and what chems to take to break into the refurbished FEV labs to seek out information the institute was likely keeping from him on project Giddyup buttercup.

Fluffies undetecable by synth retention could prove bad. Very very bad. It’s not like the wasteland is already full of strange creatures but who knows what a massive explosion in a fluffy population could cause. There is definitely no need for more of all the other critters and creeps but fluffies would be seen as food and food in abundance… good lord, the chaos! Mankind would be doomed all over again! :scream:

Admittedly since the institute knows all fluffies are synths they can just capture any/all they come across.

But yeah not being able to ping them to a region to help search teams for recovery like the one’s that were released from containment could easily leads to them becoming a permanent staple of the ecology if they can survive the hazards.
