Fluffy ponies have evolved for millions of years from a common ancestor to the modern horse. They stem from the prehistoric steppes of eurasia and north america. Around 2000 b.c so did what is the closest relative to the modern fluffy exist.
Fluffy ponies are a small equine animal that lives on open steppes and at forest edges. Their diet in the wild is omnivorous and they hunt small animals as lizards and mice, however it is more common for them to eat from carcasses left by other animals. They measure between 20-25 cm at the shoulder. They come in all colors and markings as standard horses. What keeps them different from horses are their fur that covers them like the fur on long haired cats. It’s where their name comes from. They communicate with body language, whines, snorts and grunts.
In the 80’s and 90’s so did people start to domesticate these small horses to have as pets. These come in the standard colors as the wild ones but also in colors as shades of blue, yellow, reds and greens. It also exists other subspecies than the standard horse, these are Unicorn, Pegasus and Alicorn. Domestic Fluffy ponies are strictly herbivores, this was bred to make sure they wouldn’t attack other pets or bite off fingers. They communicate as their wild relatives but some have been able to learn how to talk.
Fluffies are herd animals which means they live in big groups in the wild just as their bigger relatives. So a domestic fluffy is happier around two or more other fluffies.
A few years ago a smaller subspecies of fluffies was found in Russia and was named
Pygmy fluffy ponies. Domesticated ones are called Micro fluffy ponies. They have the same biology as their bigger counterparts. A Pygmy/Micro are between 10-15 cm at shoulder
In Canada and Alaska so does the Giant Fluffy pony live wildly, they are between 30-35 cm at shoulder and very aggressive, so they are not fitted for domestication.
Canada is also home to another highly aggressive subspecies. This subspecies is as big as a standard fluffy but has sharp tusks at 4-5 cm in length, which is used in a similar fashion to wild boars. These are called tusked fluffy ponies.
Seafluffies were first bred as a novelty pet around the late 90’s - early 20’s. However they failed to take off and the remaining ones that survived and didn’t die in their tanks were released into the wild. These slowly evolved into two subspecies. Northern sea fluffy and Southern sea fluffy. Southern sea fluffies are between 20-22 cm at shoulder, brightly colored and resemble tropical fishes which they share their homes with. Northern fluffies are a bit bigger, between 23-26 cm at shoulder and have more muted grays as colors. These also have a layer of blubber, just as seals do. Seafluffies hunt smaller fish. Nowadays the southern seafluffies are sought after as exotic pets, since they are hard to breed in captivity so they are often poached from their home to be sold in the pet trade, because of their bright colors and markings.
Garden Fluffy Ponies were bred as a living garden ornament, they come in standard size (Sized as a fluffy) and Cotton (Sized as a Micro), they look like they are growing plants instead of fur but this is wrong, they have fur and seeds stick to it and grow, so some look like small walking gardens. There are a small number of wild garden fluffies which are abandoned or escaped pets. They are strictly herbivores just as the domesticated fluffy.
Some species of fluffies can interbreed with each other. A small number of mixed fluffies has been found in the wild, most well known is a mix between Giant and tusked fluffy ponies in Canada or the wild and garden fluffy hybrids. These are very rare and don’t have an official name since they don’t seem to have become their own subspecies and are just occasional hybrids.
