WHY IS AI SO WORTHLESS!?
One would think that providing line art and asking it to simply make the lines uniform and anti aliased or to colorize it with pastel colors like a children’s cartoon character would not be hard, but instead of that it chooses to completely redraw the entire image as something else.
FFS!

I mean its great as well.
that attempt at least mostly kept the original image, but changing the details ![]()

would be SO F’ing nice if it could follow directions and ink/color pencil sketches without making changes rather than slowly doing it myself in a program.
Just get good at mouse and keyboard. MS paint now has layers so you can do matte line and color work with minimal effort if you want to do it that way.
He’s such a cutie!!!
Just practice your artwork. AI is soulless garbage.
Thanks.
I have a macbook with a wacom tablet and Gimp, Krita, Paintbrush (maybe a few other options).
I just meant it would be convenient if ai was halfway useful for doing repetitive or slow stuff…
I am not trying to use AI to generate artwork, I am trying to use it to expedite the mundane tasks of making my artwork.
Rather than selecting and carefully correcting the selections on the lines, then setting it to a path, and then stroking the path, I would rather just tell AI to clean up the lines and make them smooth and uniform.
Etc.
Each step is part of the artistic process, no matter how mundane.
So, then one can argue that using a computer is cheating, using preset brushes is cheating, automating tasks with scripts in Gimp is cheating…. and on and on… not grinding your own pigments etc.
The key is that it is the person’s vision and skill is still required to decide what and how to do things evwn if you have those things automated.
Thanks, it makes the suffering so much better
No. using programs designed for artists is an extension of them. You are still in full control of the creative process. What you’re doing is using a program to do part of the process for you. A program that uses stolen artworks to generate images. It doesn’t matter if you use your own lineart as a base, it’s still generating an image.
Just do your own linework and colouring. AI is trash.
I don’t think you read my post that started this convo… what you are saying is EXACTLY my complaint with it that lead me to say AI is worthless.
I could not get it to do simple operations like homogenizing, smoothing and antialiasing the lines without it changing the image.
Basically what I wish for is an ai that can operate GIMP proficiently from plain-text commands
As I understand it, photoshop basically has this capability integrated with it now, but I am not paying for that, would rather support open source like Gimp etc.
Also, for the most part, I consider the “stealing art” argument inane. 99% of the use cases is disposable online memes and novelties like “Ghiblify my selfy”.
An artist who is good, can use AI to be better, and will be better than a non-artist using AI. The skill of art is not purely mechanical, and for most art done commercially, is done exclusively on software anyway. Learning a particularl software is NOT an “art skill” it is an impediment to creation.
BUT! Having the creative vision and knowledge of composition and imagination IS the primary art skil, the one that drive an artist to learn the mechanical skills of physical media, or the software for digital, and that can’t be replaced with AI or matched by someone without it using AI.
Their delusion about their wingies being anything but worthless never gets old.
Bro no disrespect but even if it scraped all the fluffy pony artwork ever, that’s about 1/1,000,000,000 of the images of cute cartoon animals it has stolen. It will always try to turn your sketch into a piggy or a puppy or a kitty or more likely an awful hybrid because you’re trying to replace your image with a robot’s take
The robot will never have a baseline for what a fluffy is supposed to look like, because it’s not actually intelligent, that’s marketing
Like I understand your desire but you are way overestimating even the potential of the tool dude, even the Adobe tools you mention don’t let you go “make this sketch a drawing,” you have to use your hands to show it where to “clean” and shit. You have to pick and apply the colors and things, it’s a tool for art. You’re asking something to use the tools for you
This is why I think the site has an artificial idiocy category, so you can mess with this stuff without us bitching at you
