The Good Herd || Part Three || (stArlogintonsp)

PART 2 👇

The standoff was chaotic.
There on the crest of a hill a grey stallion stood by the body of his fallen leader.
Blood and viscera decorated his black hooves, and already the carcass had drawn flies.
Opposite him the light pink dam, Lily, stomped the Earth and pointed her horn towards him.
The sun beat down on their backs.
Her two offspring had backed themselves away from the two adults – there was nothing between them but long swathes of fescue grass.
There was a moment where the only things to be heard were the whines of insects and the blood pounding

in

his

heart.

”WIWY GUNNA GIB OU WOWSTES OWWIES EBAH!”
Unable to wait any longer, Lily charged, aiming for Zebra’s face, but he dodged, and reared around to face her.

Huffing and puffing, he watched the furious unicorn prepared for another charge. But he could not do this forever.

Unlike earthies, unicorns fought less like horse and more like bison.
When two unicorns fought, they would charge each other before bashing their heads together and wrestling for the dominant hand. The winner would usually be the fluffy with the biggest, sharpest horn. Some fluffies had horns so sharp they could pierce flesh; this included Lily,

who was beginning her charge again.

They were the most ruthless race an earthy like Zebra could face,
because although he was stronger, he couldn’t run away like a Pegasus or try and fight like a Unicorn.

He needed to think, and fast.

”HATCHEU HATCHEU HATCHEU!”
The unicorn came in fast, Zebra leapt out of the way again.

But as he thought, the method wouldn’t fool Lily twice.

She swerved and gored his fore leg.

"SCREEEEEE!”
Zebra screamed as he fell.
The momentum aided Lily and helped tear a gash in his leg before she stepped away.

Teas flooded his eyes, but he staggered back up.

He couldn’t give up now…

But his mind was still blanking.

As Lily charged for the fourth time, the wounded stallion stared at her horn.

Think

Lily drew closer

Think

She lowered her head

Think!

A yellow trickle soaked his back legs

DO SOMETHING!

In desperation, he tried to spin and buck Lily, but it was too little too late.

As soon as he put weight on his leg, he crumpled under the pain, and at the same time, Lily reached him. She was not expecting her target to be on the floor, and since she had her head lowered she tripped over him.

Zebra saw his chance.

He staggered up, aiming to stomp on Lily as he did to March, but he seemed to forget not a moment earlier he couldn’t even support his weight properly, and struggled to rear up high enough to inflict fatal damage.
Lily started to get up, unhindered by the earthy’s feeble attempts to kill her.

He realised things were going South quickly.
If he didn’t get her now, he wouldn’t have another chance to.
It was now or never.

Gritting his teeth, Zebra reared as high as he could, and ploughed his hooves into Lily’s eye.

”SCREEEEEEE!”
”SCREEEEEEE!”

Blood sprayed from the unicorn’s eye on impact.
She writhed on the ground, screaming and shitting as Zebra backed away, excruciating pain emanating from his foreleg .

”BABBEHS! SABE MUMMAH! SCREEEEEE!”
Lily called, blindly thrashing and kicking at nothing in particular.

Zebra approached her again. Despite his hatred for the selfish, big-headed mare he was still a good fluffy: no amount of hatred would spur him to just leave his enemies to die slowly.

With his wounded leg, he couldn’t stomp the life out of her, so instead he pressed a hoof onto Lily’s throat, watching as her agonised thrashing grew weaker and weaker.

“Sowwy wiwy, nu meen tu gib ou wowstes owwies befow fowebew sweepies”

”MUMMAH!”

Ah.

Yet again, the heat of the battle caused Zebra to completely forget those around him.

The colt screamed at Zebra, while the filly rushed to her mother’s side.

”MUSCAWI GUNNA MAEK OU GU FOWEBEW SWEEPIES! TAEK SOWWY POOPIES"

With shit and blood all over his hooves, a wounded leg and a pair of angry, bratty foals:

Zebra got to thinking.
