In my headcanon, they’re just an amateur’s attempt at making a biotoy. They’re harmless desk pets, and the eldritch horror thing is just an in-joke among jellen enthusiasts that got out of hand when gullible people took it seriously.

IMO, this is exactly the point of Jellenheimers. The mystery. They’re just there. Inexplicably smiling and untouched, completely content and comfortable while all the other fluffies are running from the carnage.
The more you explain them, the less interesting they become. Just like a good horror monster, hiding in the shadows instead of in full view in good lighting. Or like a cute androgynous person in a short skirt and pair of thighhighs. Brief glimpses and hints are enough to inspire the imagination, and not knowing is more scary/sexy than if it had just been shown to you. Likewise, the second you start fleshing out Jellens, they lose a part of what makes them compelling. It’s more interesting to wonder at what they might be than to have it revealed.

“Jellenheimers are just like femboys” ~ Zetsumi, 2023, paraphrased.
