He broke the mold… Either he’s A special made, or something else… Showing true leadership qualities, and putting the herd first, and not be impulsive

I love how the crystal ball eye being used to spy on is folding its front tentacles grumpily. Is it so hard to ask before activating spy mode? XD
And yeah, that’s an actual smart herd leader, not a simple selfish smarty friend. Can’t be too careful when it comes to humans knowing where to find them, after all!

I’m totally biased but I’m loving this story. Stupid, malicious smarties are… Very well represented. This is great to see.

Or finally, evolution is taking over incomplete faulty programing, the untaped fluffy brain finally reaching a higher intelligence level.

This is really a good and smart smarty. Most smarties are stupid as shit.

That’s a given considering that their entire species is stupid as shit.

Damn, I sometimes get confused about the level of sincere care they are capable of…

Its rare , most we know smarties are just dumb assholes. But we have those smarty friends to make it a difference

Smarty was originally just a title, the leader of a herd. But in the same way that “tyrant” and “dictator” took on negative connotations, so did Smarty. Ironically, this was partly due to the title–having all the other fluffies call him “smarty” often led Smarties to have a greatly exaggerated sense of their own intelligence.

Of course, the negative connotations only apply to humans–few fluffies survive long enough to learn that Smarties are often stupid and arrogant.

The title comes from the original fluffy term for unicorns–the horned fluffs were viewed as more intelligent, rightly or wrongly. In fact, in the earliest versions, Smarties were always unicorns, though that changed over time.

But as you point out, there is nothing inherently bad about being a Smarty. Many of them are terrible, but some manage to hold things together, and every once in a while you get a competent Smarty.
