I finally reached the end, and holy shit what a journey. I’m actually satisfied with both endings, mainly because in either of them, Uphie can no longer keep fucking up the lives of those around her.
In my opinion, the fake ending is the better one. One, because Uphie dies, and two, because Veve is put out of her misery. It wasn’t gone into in depth, but there were hints of it here and there, about how deeply traumatized Veve was by all the shit Uphie put her through. All the horrible things she witnessed when Millie lost her composure. Growing up around that amount of stress will have a serious impact on Veve in the future, no matter how good of a support system she has now. Especially now that the danger is passed, and as she gets older, the symptoms will get so much worse before they get better. It’ll probably have a serious impact on her performance as a tv fluffy, especially if she starts getting an aversion to conflict, and having to deal with fluffies who, like her mother, have problems with reality.
All in all, a wonderfully done series, with a deep understanding of character psychology and dynamics. 10/10, going into favs
