I would think, unless the hooves were sharpened, the skin wouldn’t be ripped off like that. It likely would force the eyelids open and lead to irreparable damage to the eyes and lead to blindness. So, still stupid of the mother and crippling for the infant.

As a young stupid child I always wondered why newborns on some species had their eyes closed, I also remembered I suggest to open the eyes and got beated for that. Thanks sister! You saved a pup from my dumbass-fluffy like ass.

Yeah, why are they closed in the first place? Are they still developing after birth? Are the eyelids actually shut? Which conditions must be met for a newborn animal to open its eyes?

Okay yeah if this happened I would legit not take it well at all. I would lose my shit and kick the mom screaming,”YOU DUMBASS! YOUR NOT ALLOWED ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR BABBIES! EVER!” I would try to take the foal to the vet, praying to fucking god it can be saved. Even in the best case scenario, I wouldn’t let her near them. No matter how much she begs. I’m angry, and I avoid her because if I try talking it out I’ll snap again. After a day or two, I will calm down enough to explain what she did wrong. The consequences of it. I would let her see her babies again, but the cost is I would always watch her. If I ever had to head out, the babies are going in a saferoom where she can’t go. Anytime I have to leave the room, she’s coming with me. Just want to drive in deep the error.

they were just born, like 5 or 6 hours old
it would take them 1 week to open their eyes or more

far as I know now, their eyes are still in development and open naturally once they have to. If you force the eyes to open, the light will mess their eyes ending up in a blind pup. That’s why I’m grateful my sister beat the shit out of me that time so I learned not to ever think about it.

It ultimately depends how long your head canon for fluffy development is. In the case of the fluffies I write, I usually have their eyes open on the 10th day of life. However, this is because I prefer to have a longer developmental cycle for foals and overall growth for fluffies. It gives a bit more freedom for writing and more legroom to put more urgency in their safety or helplessness. Either way, Opening the eyes too young, make them blind lol.

I believe animals eyes are simply closed, perhaps lightly sealed. This is to protect their eyes after birth as they have never seen / been exposed to light before.

Noted that we as newborns have our eyes closed too 
and we open it few days later as well its basically our eyes isnt ready to see the pure light and waiting to fully adjust then we open our eyes for the first time.

If they are the first time are bad mothers, it gonna happen the next time to. Make from her a pillow fluffy and let her become a milkbag or breedbag. The only way to save the foals from pain and dead. Also if the mother do stupid things the foals also. Than you have to decide she deserve it for a next time having foals or take the genitals away for making new foals.

Human babies open their eyes right away. They are closed a lot due to sleeping and crying but they can see immediately
