I’ve seen some legitimately interesting AI art, especially the really early stuff where it was all abstract and swirly. Theres for sure some cool uses of it but weirdly smooth animals with giant eyes isnt it.

99% of the time I can still spot ai from a mile away no matter what the subject is. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its place. I’m even in favor of advancing it further (not like we have a choice)
It’s useful for making references for various things so I can sketch them. Not replace my own art with it.
It’s also great for tabletop stuff that I can’t be bothered to paint a huge portrait of in a few minutes like a character or a setting you know.
Specifically I’ve been using it for my Cyberpunk character to make graffiti protest art. Just to share with the table you know

Why does people dislike AI arts?
It takes too little efforts to make,they look good in the first sight but if you look into it the details they are shit,the pictures that got fed into AI were stolen,there are too many and they are everywhere.
People are using it to taunt artists, no matter they are artists with great skills or just beginners.
You can’t find interesting details in it,even as simple as like a can of beans saying “bean there,done that”,if you want that you’ll have to add description to it,but in the same time AI will probably over done it,making it too obvious or just straight up fuck up the letters.
And people who doesn’t know how to draw,they don’t know where the AI get it wrong so they will post low quality AI arts without knowing it’s bad.
Like when the eyes are off,the angle is wrong, or it’s just looks unnatural due to the style is inconsistent.
but they will just keep posting and posting, because they feel like they “created art”
But the truth is it looks bad,and sometimes just…boring.

I saw the puffy griffin post you made before it was taken down. The entire thing was “the AI couldn’t get it right”. This one’s missing its talons, this one’s too cat-like, this one’s too bird-like, this one’s just a regular-ass griffin, this one I gave up and just had it put a beak on a regular cat, it never turned out right.
AI is not infallible. I’ve heard of people who become artists because they tried AI and the fucker just could not do what they wanted it to do. It can create generic art, like how all your dang griffins were the same creature sat in the exact same way.
But also? I don’t like AI because it doesn’t have a source. If you see a cool AI pic, you can’t say “oh I like this, what else has this artist made?” because there is no artist. There’s no portfolio you can check out, nowhere you can look for other things they made. It’s the same for AI music - for a while I listened to one of those youtube channels where the music was all AI generated. And sometimes I found a song I liked! But it was AI - so it had no track listing, no name, no artist. No way to separate that single song from the hour of generic nothingness that surrounded it. And soon enough, it was impossible to even find it because the channel posted more 1 hour vids daily with the same dang AI-generated art prompt of a Gundam mech on a hill.
Same for AI writing. I like fucking around with chat AIs, it’s a cozy way to roleplay or co-write a story, but the thing will forget what your character is, who else is in the scene, what happened even a post or two prior. To coherently RP with one you have to covertly remind the damn thing of what is going on all the time, even basic things, because otherwise you’ll pat a kid once too many times on the head and the AI decides said kid is a dog now. And even when it does remember, it boils down every character to a generic one, forgetting and discarding their actual personalities.
So sure, AI can be pretty. But it sucks. Not because it’s destroying artists or ruining the environment or erasing creativity or any of that.
It sucks because it’s not good at anything it does. It will never get the art you want, only “close enough I guess”. It will never make anything like that one song you enjoy again. It will not remember that the story has a dude named Ryan because he left to get water a few sentences ago. It writes the same dialogue lines and personalities over and over again regardless of who it’s supposed to write.
It has no portfolio, no discography, no story coherency. It carries massive flaws that can’t be smoothed out. Yet people tout it as the way of the future because if you don’t care what you’re consuming, it’s “good enough”.

If you can’t see the problem with AI and claim that real art made my the human hand has no soul then you’re not an artist and have no appreciation for the craft. Which means you’re not an artist and have no problem with the blatant theft AI is based on.
If you’re not going to draw real fluffies with your own merit then get off this site. We don’t want you here.

I apoligize for that. That was not aimed at anyone here. That was more aimed at the mainstream commercial entertainment industry, churning out “Remake: The Remake” and “Uninspired Superhero Number 102”, and pop bands that all sound the same, and the mainstream streaming and art sites having been overrun by shills and monetization whores (I’m getting old, I remember a time before they were like that)
To this site’s great credit, there doesn’t seem to be much of that here. That’s one of the many reasons why I’ve quickly grown to love this site.

Not precisely. Due to a series of bad experiences I’ve come to associate criticism of AI with a specific type of artist that treats sites like this as a business opportunity rather than a community

I do both commissions and freebies but mostly freebies. Most artists here that do charge commissions charge a fraction of a fraction of what any other drawing would cost anywhere else
