yeah, the grid is abrasive, and causes superficial cuts the more he moves around on them. The blood looks worse because his fluff acts like a paint brush. He’s in the same room as his mother so he has tried to get her to help him by tapping on the glass and yelling, thus the marks.
Sorry if that was poorly illustrated, I got the idea as I was drawing the glass container. He was originally just going to be suffering in a cold and damp tank.
