This story has proven to be way too complex compared from how it started. Despite my attempt to keep it to one, then two parts, now it has to be three Dx
Notes:
-
The timeline at the start of the story, from the train ride to Wayne being destitute, is not told in chronological order. For instance, it is possible the train ride took place not long after McBrega started selling the new biotoys. In addition, Wayne’s depature from the Belyayev family farm took place in the late 70s, at least half a decade before Roy joined McBrega.
-
I had a little fun referencing @Dragonixa and @FederalChemical1728 . I could imagine their “breeds” surviving in the wild
-
the factory scene of this story can be imagined to be an evolution of the process described in Bio-Lathe
-
The biotoy crash of the 80s is meant to be a allegory for the video game crash of 1983
-
as mentioned before, ROB the robot was credited as one of the reasons why the NES succeeded in America. However, as pointed out by AVGN, it was a piss-poor toy. This setting imagines if bio-animatronic fluffies took their place.
-
One of the classic lores for the creation of fluffies as biotoys was the inclusion of a chip in their manufacturing. I am awaiting @BKCatharsis 's reserach on this matter
-
Asian carp is an invasive species, along with lionfish and kudzu
-
Senator Nelson was the same senator who took a tour of McBrega brothers business in the previous story. He is named after Ted Nelson one of the pioneers in information technology.
-
Samuel Adams is included in this setting as I could see him being one of the founders of AWFP along with Fievel. However, the Sam Adams of this story is much younger, and is different from the fantastic of the Sam Adams series, or the Hasbio executive of Aww Staw.
-
Tecboi is named after Tectoy. I was influenced by an article about how a game like the Sims was coming to a form of the Sega Genesis. One article has mentioned how, despite failing elsewhere, Sega prospered in Brazil. In some ways, Tecboi could be seen as an analog to Sega, the way McBrega is an analog to Nintendo (despite having some Sega elements)
-
The Nazi dog story is one of the background elements of this setting that I prefer to leave to the imagination
-
both AWFP and emotional support fluffies are the creation of @emotionalsupportfluffy
-
The death of Fievel Belyayev was based off the real life crash of the Aeroflot Flight 593, which caused by a child accidentally affecting the controls
I had intended the overall story to be in two parts but because it is now in three, I will be mentioning this influence again in the next part. This story could be seen as a response to @Swindle 's The Empire Strikes Back. It’s a reversal of the events that was depicted in Swindle’s story. More importantly, it explores how certain technologies that created fluffies could potentially exist in the world, and how their early existence could change it.
It is a reason why, in the world of SiM, diseases like AIDS and some cancers could be cured. However, and as with all medical science, not everything can be cured, at least not immediately.
- yes, I’ve been watching Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Yes, its great.
There is one more part left to the story. However, and because the overall story was supposed to be a concept, I hope the final part will be much shorter than Irving vs Fievel and Roy vs Wayne
