Abandoning fluffies in resource scarce environments is an ethical way to get rid of one, their death will bring outside sustenance to the native wildlife and help the native fauna and flora should they die quickly enough.
Not to mention it helps to deal with the pest problem that are fluffies.

Abandoning fluffies is never ethical unless they’re fixed and you have broken all of their legs so they can’t run from the coyotes.
