I was reading the Ctrl Alt Del comic at the time. We all knew something was bound to happen any time soon. We all believed Tim Buckley (the artist) was teetering kn the edge and that he would do or say something that would make an outside force come down on him hard …
Instead we got “Loss”, the apotheosis an implosion.
That single wordless comic strip became a bigger meme than the artist already was, a meme that persists to this day.
It was a pure distellation of everything wrong with Ctrl Alt Del (and perhaps webcomics in general at the time) as well as it’s artist and its impact was not contained to Ctrl Alt Del itself, but spread over the entire webcomic genre.
And not Tim Buckley, Ctrl Alt Del or the entire genre ever truly recovered from Loss.
It’s hard to truly put in words the significance at the time, but it was truly something to behold.
