A suggestion for tags and some questions

I hope this is the right category to post on…
I have a suggestion to add to the tags for Text-posts mainly. I do also want other’s opinions on it so i hope it gets some people to comment their thoughts.

It’s weird but I’ve seen it being used in a Reddit community that mainly shares stories. Their flags are these and they indicate how long a story is. I would like to see it added here for those who want long stories or short ones. I have been thinking about how many words should be associated to these sizes.

XS - Anything below 699 words
S - 700 - 799 words
M - 800 - 899 words
L - 900 - 999 words
XL - 1,000 - 1,999 words
XXL - 2,000 - 2,999 words
XXL - 3,000+ words

Now here are some questions…

  • What do you think?
  • Would this be helpful?
  • How many words should be in each size?
  • Would you see yourself using these for your own stories?
  • Do you personally like long stories or short stories?

Eh, this might just be me but this seems a touch tedious. Anything over a certain length should probably be broken up into multiple parts anyways.

Now if we were doing an event and wanted to run a microfiction writing day or something, I could see something like this system being more useful.

I think most of my individual chapters are already XL to XXL. (I might rub to the verbose)

I’ll start the habit if it becomes a thing, but it isn’t a big deal to me as a reader. What’s there is there, just read to the end.

Also, the length of the scroll bar gives an idea how long the story is, that’s what I always use. If it’s a tiny bar, i know it’ll be a long story. But if it’s like, a third of the window-height, it’s a shorty.

Speaking as somebody who writes chapters on average of 2k to 3k words, and who has written a 10k story before, I find the classifications a bit limiting. Also, I tend to see a 2k word story as a “short” story.

Personally, I think your suggestions would be quite helpful when a person is looking for a certain story type. For example, I usually look for the long stories b/c they are usually very engaging and entertaining.

Also Oculus has a point about 2K and below being XS.
