Its either you all die, or you eat your offspring in the hope that you can survive and hopefully make more kids. For an animal, it makes sense.

My old boss caught a centipede and it’s brood. Put them in a terrarium over the weekend. Came back? She ate all of the babies.
The fact that she feels the need to tell the foals this, with no idea of whether it’s going to be a necessity makes me want to stomp her. Seems like she might do it when she gets slightly hungry, or “buh nummies awe aww da way oba dewe, babbeh nummeh wite hewe” nom

I do remember this being one of the more popular posts I had on the Booru. I just find the who explaining about needing to eat the baby to the baby a bit surreal and funny at the same time.
