Coffee (by Pushka)

My very first fluffy drawing! I drew it by hand, scanned it, and then painstakingly fixed the lineart so I could color it.

Awesome !
Does coffee have a backstory at all?

Thank you!
Yes, he does. He’s one of the main characters in my future story Of Androids and Biotoys. The character bios are here.

Thank you! I plan to, though I think I’ll probably just color any future ones traditionally. I love how I got this to look, but it took many hours to fix the lineart.

What do you mean fixed the lineart? And how did you color it? Maybe I can help
What program did you use?

The original picture is uncolored and drawn with pencil. I scanned it as a black-and-white image and the lineart didn’t scan entirely (some bits were missing and others were mixed with scuff marks), so I had to fix it (using a mouse) in Microsoft Paint. I colored it in Paint as well.

I like how you drew the fur and hair

I think the big 2 free art programs people really like are Krita and Procreate. I use Krita personally, and there are tools on there that could help you draw with a mouse if that’s what you’re doing. If you’re using a tablet then you might like Procreate better but I haven’t really tried it. I use a tablet but still use Krita. I really like the line smoothing it has.

I’d really recommend switching to one of those and it might seem daunting at first but I just took things one step at a time learning all the features. Once you use it a bit people can give you advice for coloring and stuff to make your life a lot easier.

Like I used to color by hand but the more I used the program and talked to people who’ve been using drawing programs over time the more I’ve gotten used to the more “complicated” things that make me able to draw 10x faster than I used to

I might try Krita. I have a tablet, but it’s just an iPad Mini and I don’t use it to draw.

You totally could if you want

Although drawing on a tablet and drawing on paper are still very different. Doing both would be a good exercise I think. Draw on paper, scan, trace on Krita. Before too long you won’t need to draw on paper anymore.

I’d have to buy a stylus first. I don’t think I could draw anything decent with just my finger.

There are some pretty decent ones on amazon for cheaper than you’d get for one of those actual apple ones. Look for “capacitive styluses” and you can get a good one for like $20.

It shouldn’t be a problem I think because it should just be bluetooth but you might wanna make sure that it works with Apple products.

Also the one I bought years ago didn’t have the plastic tip it was supposed to and it scratched the fuck out of my phone screen the day before I was gonna put a screen protector on so yeah be wary of that. That was just from a cheap faceless Chinese company on Amazon though
