Apparently, seeing fluffies being abusive trumps his general dislike of them. Either that or, rather than helping them, he just wants to give a jerk his comeuppance and happened to help the mare.

Toughies are like any smarty feels strong and can do anything UNTIL seeing their so called leader dying or been beaten to a pulp or a rare occasion realising they actually fuck up would high turn and leave their leader or herd for their own survival.
And there is those stupidly loyal and ended up dead. 
Well deserved, also such a beautiful anomaly doing work on teaching fluffies good and bad. Absolutely gorgeous!
