As a RL pet groomer, I can tell you it’s commonly done to dogs, and even some long haired cats. We don’t do this, but a light skimming of the hairs that are around the anus is all that’s needed for a “poop path”. It’s barely noticeable, but if you look closely at a long-haired dog’s butt that has just been to the groomer, you might notice the square edges around the opening. This is because of the shape of the clipper blade. I’m not recommending going around town, looking carefully at any, and all, dog buttholes you encounter. You might just want to take my word on this one.
