End of Entepott Fluffy Shelter [by STSY.MEY] - Cover Art by LaPonkisuwu

Where did the government come into this? Are we still talking about fluffies or are we talking about something else now? I’m so incredibly confused.

…Right.

Well, Mey asked me to not scrawl all over her page with argumentative comments, so I’m going to refrain from doing so. I have quite a few issues with the things you said, but it’s not like I’m going to change your mind over the internet anyway. Thank you for the reply

Early on in the story it’s mentioned that they have to keep fluffies for a mandated amount of time to qualify for government subsidies. That’s the whole reason they’re even feeding the shitrats in the first place.

Really, dude?

Fucking really.

Yeah I was trying to have a discussion in good faith and I thought it was pretty rude.

The moment Emilia shut down the talk of immediately euthanizing the shit rats I knew they were gonna suffer. Not surprised that she didn’t try to reach out to Ze, I hate to say it but one common theme in this particular fluffy 'verse is everyone being too emotionally constipated to reach out for help until things are way past the breaking point. It was the central part of Uphie’s story, Ella’s insistence on doing everything led to her early death, and now Emilia is having to come to terms with the fact that having seen hellgremlins celebrate the death of someone she cared deeply about, she can’t really unsee that facet in all fluffies. And she can’t even see the joys of abuse because its not what she needs right now.

The talk about Entepott not being an ideal shelter is kind of flying past the point- of course fluffy sterilization/ feral roundup/ enforced anti-breeding measures are ultimately going to do more good for the overpopulation of fluffies in this universe, but none of those things are going to immediately deal with the reality right now of there being a need for a place for fluffies who are found on the street to go while they either find their old owners, find a new home, or are humanely euthanized if they aren’t adopted. Entepott only came about because of a stubborn refusal to close once their funding was abruptly yanked away, and there were emergency measures. And then pride entered the picture ( after all, Ze could have bought the entire shelter via her family’s money, and there were other avenues of income ) and they still kept with the slaughter because now it was a routine, it brought in some income ( the pelts ), and frankly the person doing it ( Ze ) enjoyed legally torturing and killing the more irredeemable fluffies. So, once the person who enjoyed the job left, and the person who’s pride was the only thing keeping things together died, the shelter really had no soul left.

I’ve really enjoyed the story, especially the early parts where we got to suggest ideas for the shelter. Just like in the real world, there’s never going to be a truly ‘balanced’ fluffy shelter where good fluffies are happy and waiting to get their forever homes, while selfish, bad fluffies suffer until their inevitable demise. There’s two sides that aren’t able to agree on where the line should be drawn ( or in some cases, if there should even be a line ). But I was very entertained by the story of one shelter attempting to walk that tightrope.

I’m… sorry you felt that way? I responded with an emoji that I thought was appropriate for the post I read as a way of expressing my opinion. Just because you don’t like that opinion doesn’t make what I did rude.

Edit: I really don’t want this to turn into an argument, so I’m going to voluntarily stop responding to this stuff. Mey is a friend of mine and I don’t want to ruin their comments section.

Maybe this community really is so removed from it’s channer origins that you’re being serious, but for at lot of my time on the internet labelling someone/their opinions as reddit was basically an oblique way of calling them retarded.

Edit: fine we can leave it here.

I don’t want you to take this as me shitting on the story. I just reacted to it in a different way. It was well written.

It’s the end of an era and closing of a sad chapter, but their a chance for new things, like the effect will have will be something good then just sad: real proper fluffies in a good home, and a lot of bad ones got culled and not tainting the fluffy name anymore

an example for other shelters to maybe mimic, who knows, but it can’t be entepott anymore. Too much has happened to keep going. Let the new ones do it, they’ve done enough and tried their best let the girls rest and recover, they’ve done all they could realistically!

Nah you’re perspective is interesting.

yeah thats kind of like the bare minimum for running what is essentially a homeless shelter for idiot horses

I liked the entire series, hugbox and abuse.
I was really surprised when Ella died.
I disagree with Em’s self assessment that she was even as close to as bad as the people who attacked her… since she didn’t attack the people she disliked.
It’s unfortunate that Em didn’t get what she needed from killing all of the shitrats, but it’s not surprising. It never seemed like she was geared towards violence.
Glad that all of the helpers seemed like they got good homes.
Great story!

Fantastic story and series. Your writing isn’t just good, it’s the type of good that makes me want to be better in my own writing, to more effectively portray complicated and nuanced characters. Thank you for creating awesome content for us!

honestly the only ethical way to deal with this overpopulation is to keep this 3 strikes scheme, but instead of keeping them in place, it would be euthanasia. it sounds drastic but it is the most humane way to only keep the minimally adoptable, and if they consider it even too exaggerated, they are too idealistic people. reality is cruel, beings suffer and die, they may see it as unnecessary, but that’s the way it is.

Poor Ella. She fucked herself over by giving in to the idea that revenge would make her feel better. She was never the sort of person that would work that way for. It’s understandable considering the sheer emotional duress that she’d been through in the entire history of her involvement with the shelter and Ella, but it’s sad that she isolated herself and missed out on anyone (like Zeri) advising her not to try it. Now she needs some major, major therapy, and that wont happen until someone gives her permission to want to stop being in pain.
Side note…the way you described the shitrats’ behavior, circular thinking, selfishness, cruelty and baffling lack of logic…I was thinking about the humans I know of who are just like that, and how mind-blowing it is that they really do be like that. It is very hard to be sympathetic with someone who laughs when someone suffers. Sometimes, shitrats are just holding a big mirror up to humanity. The difference is that they can hurt us, so it’s not a constant temptation to punish them because Consequences.
TL;DR Now I really get why abusebox is cathartic.

Do you mean Emilia? Cause Ella passed away

Damn that was just awful in a good way, Ella passing away trying her hardest to make sure the good fluffies got a home causing Em to go down a slippery slope of substance abuse to get through 4 weeks of having to deal with the death of her friend while Zeri can’t really offer help. The way that one slip up giving a POS the ability to strip funding causing all of this because they had to give the worst of the worst of fluffies more care then they deserve.

Sad to see the story end so tragically, but I suppose there was no other way this story could end. This has been a wonderful read.

D’oh! Yeah, that was just a mistype, I referred back to Ella properly later in the post. She was on my mind a lot–I doubt Emilia would have gone so far off the deep end if she hadn’t been in love. Pissed and devastated, sure, but out of herself enough to behave like a whole different person, nah.
