Fairy Fingers (Ambitiousleather8309)

Occasionally a fluffy pony foal has a larger than baseline expression of horse DNA during fetal development, resulting in a normal horse foal’s eponychium growing around the soft leathery hoof of a fluffy foal. the eponychium protects the horse foal and mother horse’s uterus from damage from sharp newborn hooves. the hoof cap is very rubbery and soft, and breaks apart quickly as it dries.

A good mummah will instinctually gnaw away the excess hoof cap with the afterbirth and umbilical cord, but a dummeh mummah will be repulsed by the ‘munsta hoofsies.’

I thought that was pretty crazy when I first learned about this, but it makes sense. I bet those hooves could easily puncture the womb without them.

I’ve seen a lot of comments on YouTube where people are grossed out by foal slippers, but I think they’re one of the most adorable things about newborn hoofed animals :glee:
