Shark's Family

“Daddeh! Daaaaadeh!!!” Shark lifted his head from his hooves, blinking in the sunlight.

“Wha, San-dowwah?” He yawned.

“Wan pway fwisbee!” he tapped his hooves against the circle of plastic excitedly, tail swishing.

“Am nappin’…” Shark whined.

The red mare snuggled against his side kicked him gently with her hoof. “Shawky, gu pway wif babbeh, nu be babbeh foebah.” She mumbled, eyes staying tightly shut.

Shark groaned, but slowly got to his hooves. “Otay, otay, Shawk pway.”

Sand dollar squealed with joy, rearing up and flapping his wings wildly. “Tankoo daddeh!!!”

Shark chuckled. “Gu wun, Shawk throw.”

As if shot from a gun, Sand dollar started sprinting to the far side of the yard. Shark grabbed the plastic disk in his teeth and with a very practice motion snapped his head to the side, sending the frisbee sailing across the yard. He watched Sand dollar run alongside it, sailing over the grass. With a small hop, he snatched the disk out of the air and landed neatly on all four hooves.

“Gud catch! Wike bawky munstah.” Shark teased.

Sand dollar tossed the frisbee aside. “Am bettah than bawky munstah!”

“Mhm-hm. Throw it bak.” Shark took a low stance, ready to dart in whatever direction the disk flew.

Sand dollar looked down at the disk. “Uh… Nu knu how…”

“Just thwow. It nu hawd.”

The colt rubbed his hooves together anxiously. “Mabbeh… Mabbeh uncaw Scotty wan thwow?”

Shark looked over to where his scarred brother lay in the grass, snoring softly through his muzzle. “Nu can wif muzzwe on face. Hewe, daddeh show.”

Shark positioned himself next to his son. He was so much smaller, lacking a stallions muscle bulk. Sand dollar mirrored his fathers posture and pose, unsure what to do with his other back hoof, the one Shark lacked. His sons intact legs gave him a pang of envy, followed by the guilt of wishing his son would be marred in the same way.

“So you gwab wif teefies…” he held the disk in his teeth, Shark watching intently. “Den,” his words were muffled around the disk. “yu tuwn to the side an-” He whipped his head forward, still holding the disk. “Buh den wet gu.” He extended the disk to his son.

“Otay.” Sand dollar took the disk, his serious expression making Shark smile.

“Tuwn, and den…” Sand dollar turned his head until the disk touched his shoulder. He looked up at Shark, who nodded approvingly. With all the force he could muster he whipped his head to the side, sending the frisbee spiraling through the air.

“Gud! Das weaw gud!!” Shark gave his son an affectionate shove.

“San-dowwah fwew it!” He cheered, bucking wildly in celebration.

“Eep!” Cherry chirped as the disk slammed into her side. “Why huwt mummah?” She sat up, glaring at the pair.

“Oopsie…” Sand dollar shrunk back.

“Am accident! Sowwy Chewwy!” Shark called. “Thwow bak!”

“Buh wan nappie…” Cherry huffed.

“San-dowwah nu be babbeh foebah!” Shark replied.

Cherry puffed her cheeks and glared as Sand dollar laughed, but slowly got to her hooves. “Nu eben knu how…” she muttered.

“San-dowwah show mummah!” Sand dollar cried, racing across the yard.
