Testing is underway. We all yearn for a more empathetic fluffy (maybe). The nerds in the lab are figuring that out (also maybe). No more bitch mares, no more poopie-fluffy haters, no more problems. What progress has been made so far?
Naw, the idiot was the scientist who set the voltage wrong, it’s in the text. The fluffy performed the test and tried to kill the thing hurting her baby. So, empathy proven I guess? Congrats scientist
You think the mare would have stopped trying to give the button sorry hooves if the voltage was lower? For the test to have any sort of measurable response effect, the voltage had to have been at least uncomfortable for the foal, since the test hypothesis is probably ‘does the mother value her foal over nummies’.
In any case, the voltage should have been dynamically adjustable mid-test, or they could have just turned the whole system off at the wall. The fact that they didn’t and carried on letting the mare shock her babbeh multiple times suggests that the voltage was set to the value chosen in the test protocol, just that the voltage chosen was too high.
There’s only so much you can do to counter stupidity - normally if you build or design something that’s idiot proof, the universe just builds a better idiot.
There’s only two things they failed at here; possibly incorrect voltage and the mare being stupid enough to try and protect her babbeh by trying to punish the thing hurting her babbeh, which causes it to hurt her babbeh.
“Sir this clearly isn’t working. Quite Frankly I’m not sure it was ever going to.”
“Maybe, but if nothing else we’ll have a better grasp on what not to do next time. Also keeps the animal rights activists off our backs. Now find a way to get her keep going, maybe we can see how much voltage they can take before they die.”
