I would imagine that fluffy colors are unpredictable. Sometimes, the pelt color stays the same(especially in Pegasus), but in Earth, Unicorn, and Alicorns, the colors darken throughout growth, either into an eye-burning technicolor like the unicorn’s pelt usually is or just a relatively dark tone in the case of the Earth fluffy(as projected). This is one reason fluffies are abandoned, color-based catfishing.
I also can see fluffys going through some sort of teenagehood where their actions become 2x more deviant or irritating than the adult fluffy since they are learning boundaries by constantly pushing them. They don’t exactly get grace like most adolescent animals so they’re most likely to be killed at that stage of life.
I’ve been having fun with the concept of a mare so pregnant she’s immobilized. The high yield is the best survival mechanisms since we all know at least 60% of those foals are dying, but also the terrible litter to nipple ratio is also a funny thing to think about. As for pregnant mares I would imagine they would get pregnant again just as their growing babies are weaning which would mean often times you’ll see matriarchal based herd(lead by a single mummah with a possible less extreme form of bitch mare syndrome where there’s less neglect but you can clearly see a hierarchy going on with the “prettiest babbehs” on the top and the “poopie babbehs” on the bottom socially) instead a patriarchal herd(lead by a smartie) but it’s not noticeable because patriarchal herds are the most disruptive and thus last less longer than the matriarchal herds.
I’ll start creating actual comics one of these days instead of headcanon dumping on sketches I swear.

Fluffy mares giving birth in bulk makes sense as fluffies mostly survive by finding genuinely sympathetic humans or just dumb luck. And if danger approaches what’s wrong with some infanticide in the name of the greater good?
The concept of fluff colours changing as the fluffy ages also have potential for interesting twists on established fluffy lore.

It’s super fun that you give fluffies a dewlap like rabbits, that’s not something I’ve ever seen before. And I love the idea of a matriarchal herd, cause I feel like those would definitely exist as fluffies try to find different ways to survive in the wild
Thank you! I’ve always seen foals and newborns but I’ve never seen anyone’s interpretation of an adolescent fluffy where they would get lanky and look adult but not quite.
I like this headcanon and have a similar one, but with the addition fact that their fluffy could sometime either lighten up or some rare case shift entire color sprectrum as they grow up. Breeding for a specific coat color is impossible in my mind.
Interesting concept. It would make it hell for professional animal breeders to breed a fluffy color in particular. I could imagine a disgruntled breeder breeding for a pinkie pie color palette and ending up with a twilight for the 30th time

If it’s any help to that poor bastard, I imagine that you could tell what their coat color would end up roughly around a week after being weaned from milk. So still young, but not so enough for most. Funny enough also screw over mummah fluffy whom pick a bestest based on color since the color might darken, lighten, or even color completely.
It’s a fun thing to explore. I think that they have a looks based hierarchy since fluffies tend to prioritize that over smarts or physical ability(as long as it isn’t too blatant Fluffies still hate disabled fluffies.)
