All the time, when fluffies are used like food, the fluffies are or still alive or die when are being cooked.
A comic a read a few time ago when the MC discovered that fluffies, if are cooked alive or after to die, the flesh is tender but if you leave a fluffy dead for a long time, took a bad flavor and the meat become like plastic (even the rigor mortis becomes them into plastic dolls).
So there is the question, what the fluffy meat is made of? Do you think that it could be safe to eat it if is bio plastic? I mean, like micro plastic shit and all the stuffs, could be the same.
Of course, in my headcanon, fluffy meat is real meat, even if the fluffies themselves originated from a Hasbio lab.
The genetic ancestry of the Fluffy isn’t widely known outside of top secret Hasbio labs and, for legal reasons, Texas. But the meat is pretty much like slightly sweet beef, unless the Fluffy has been “distressed” (read: subjected to acute, extreme torture shorty before death, such as skinning alive), in which case the meat is laced with lactic acid, giving it a slightly tart flavor usually described as “savory.”
Eating fluffy might seem horrific in the 2020s. In my timeline, it’s considered acceptable by 2040, and irreplaceable by 2100. This is in no small part because of some really horrible shit that happens 2025-2030.
In my headcanon, a billion fluffies are slaughtered for meet every few weeks. A hundred million of those die in extreme agony. They are widely considered to be intelligent, empathetic creatures, and the notion that humanity literally survives on the torture and death of billions of intelligent creatures a year is considered to be hilarious.
It’s definitely “real” meat, but I suppose if you wanna really emphasize that it’s artificial, you could mention something about it having some weird or unique taste.
I almost thought about that 3D printed “grown” meat but I don’t think that has muscle structures like an actual animal would need.
I headcanon that their hooves and horns have traces of bioplastics in them, which allow those parts of a fluffy to be softened if held in extreme temperatures (not anything like a heater for comfort or even a fireplace, but say you put one in the microwave or boiling water, the hooves [and horn if the fluffy has one] will come out malleable and as such would be easy to remove). I’ve been trying to do research on polymer compounds that would allow for this sort of thing, so my headcanon may change depending on available science, but I’m still in the infancy stages of my research. The meat itself would be more like lab-grown meat, however, and far more advanced than what we currently have IRL. I’d imagine in the case of a fluffy its body is so small and unstable that it can become flooded with chemicals easily, and as such torturing one before the cooking process could potentially change the meat’s taste somewhat. Some people claim the meat tastes better this way, but others think it’s a placebo effect. More in-universe research is needed on the effects, and as such, fluffy food prep is considered controversial, with fluffy advocates regularly protesting the practice. Thing is, most restaurants don’t actually have the legal qualifications to serve fluffies, either, so a lot of these protests end up misguided based on rumors.
It’s an edible meat, but an almost overly sweet-tasting one in my HC. Incredibly fatty and tender. It’s most often found in ultra-processed foods like sausage, nuggets, etc. It’s super cheap compared to other meats- a lot of prisons and school lunch programs integrate it into their menus almost immediately. As the price of other meats steadily rise worldwide, fluffy meat finds its way into more and more people’s lives, especially after fluffies have been around for a while and the ‘magic’ of a talking animal wears off and the reality of all of these needy, generally helpless creatures existing really sets in.
A portion of the population is wary of it too (this is a world where things like government oversight and health & safety regulations are effectively non-existent anymore.) Activists and conspiracy theorists can sometimes be found protesting the sale of it. Most people just don’t care though, in the same way that most people don’t think about how a burger comes to be. They’ve got bigger things to worry about
I have like two different headcanon going on in my head but for the Fluffy meat question.
HC#1 - Fluffy meat is real and ediable. Taste & texture like pork but slightly sweet.
HC#2 - Fluffies don’t have flesh, blood, or normal guts. Their “guts” is made of cotton fluff and their skin is either polyester, cotton, or yarn.
tbh the idea of eating fluffies grosses me out. not because they’re bio toys or anything but because they’re fucking gross little creatures that will probably give you diseases.
