Gore-tober 10 "Fungi" (Guodzilla)

There’s a great short story by Elizabeth Bear, can’t remember the name but its set in the Arkham in Space SF setting she’s used in several stories. Some space scavengers hit a derelict ship and force open some cargo containers only to find hundreds of stolen Mi-Go brain cylinders.

And then the Mi-Go show up to get their stuff back.

It doesn’t end well, but the story is great.

Two other stories in the same universe involve someone recreating Herbert West’s serum and someone with a juvenile mythos beastie as a pet/companion.

Thank you for the article.
Lovecraft’s veneration of Poe is not entirely new to me: nor the idea of literary antecedents itself. I would add that Simmons use of Keats is an interesting metaexample, in which he attempts to imitate the manner of tribute practiced by more worthy authours. Stephanie Meyers comparing herself to Shakespeare & Austen is of a similar nature.
That writers might become influential in our mortal sphere was denied by neither Poe or Lovecraft. But it might well be inspirational to those new to letters.
