I imagined that chirpie noises are more from the throat and chest than requiring any mouth movement. Regardless of all that, 10 hours of gagged screeching, peeping and gurgling would definitely drive almost anyone mad.

Why is the foal being punished anyway?
It’s more that Lemonada is being punished, Lionel was just the best say to emotionally cripple her, what with him being her bestest and last foal, after starving the rest.
Her being made to choose whether or not he dies from starvation or exploding from too much milk is sort of a cruel irony.
