Grendel part 1 by(that1hugboxer)

You are Vicky

You got up as you always do

At 4am. You enjoy staring your day with a walk across the farm.

It helps you clear your mind and steady yourself for the day ahead

As you walk you see something in the distance

As you get closer you realize it’s a fluffy.
A…foal ? No. No that can’t be right.

It’s too big to be a foal

As you approach it doesn’t make a sound.

“Holy hell.”

It is indeed a foal

It’s eyes not even open yet

But it’s the biggest foal you’ve ever seen. At least double the size a regular one

It’s huddled up against the hot water heater

You pick up the foal

His main which was barely even peach fuzz, matched its beautiful mahogany fluff
It doesn’t make a single sound but you feel it breathing

You head back to the house and ask

Zoey for some help

You’re younger sister carefully examines the foal

“It’s definitely a foal.but it’s freaking huge”

“Anything else you can tell me about it?”

“More than likely a feral abandoned by its mother for being a bad color “

“I kind of…”

Zoey smirks

“You wanna keep it don’t you?”

You sheepishly rub the back of your neck

“Come on sis I let you and Lorna have fluffies, besides look at the size of this beast! I wanna know how big it will get and what kind of temperament it will have.”

Zoey sighs

“And here I thought you were the responsible one “

“Alright I’ll help you. But you need to understand a few things “

“1: this is a feral. Meaning that you can’t just give it to a domesticated milk mare . Feral foals aren’t as loud as domesticated foals so a domesticated mare will not recognize the subtle signals a feral foal gives.

2: feral foals don’t tend to acclimate well with domesticated foals. If you want to have a feral you need to keep it away from domesticated foals at all times until its old enough to train

3: domesticated foals are easily agitated by sound due to them associating making noise with attracting predators “

You know it’s a lot of work but the child inside you really wants this

As the oldest sister and face of the farm you often have to present yourself as calm, collected and professional.

But gosh darn it!

This was a chance to have the kind of fluffy you’d always wanted

And you weren’t about to let it slip by

Zoey looks at you curiously

“So what’s his name?”

You had been so excited that you forgot to give the big boy a name

You racked your brain for a moment

And then like a freight train it hit you

“Grendel”

Zoey chuckles

“Let’s hope he’s got a better temperament than his namesake.”
