Hadrian’s Fluffies - by RainbowRottie

(This is for a writing prompt I saw on the FC website about writing your pets as fluffies. Hadrian is my fursona and is my icon, so I’m using him here as me. This is a very similar story to how and why I got a new puppy!)

Hadrian frowned as he listened to the fluffy vet, “I understand, but she’s just not the same! Isn’t there anything wrong?” The vet shook his head, “All the bloodwork came back just fine. This old gal is healthy, for her age. I’m sorry we can’t do anything for her eye…but one day we all go blind if we live long enough.” Hadrian sighed and took his precious fluffy back. The vet then smiled softly, “You can try introducing a younger fluffy that will live with her. It might help her perk up a bit.”

Abbie was a cute little angora type fluffy. Bred to have a smooshed in muzzle, like a shih-tzhu dog. She was a pegasus and was mostly black, with white hooves, a white spot on her muzzle attaching to a white streak that went down the front of her neck, chest and belly, head and neck. Her mane was front half white back half black and her tail was all black. Her little wings were also black. Her left eye was missing, the right one was once bright brown, but was now grayed from age her muzzle wrinkled and also grayed with age. (She’d be twelve this birthday!) Her black fluff was turned brown in places because she’d seen a lot of sun in her years.

Abbie nervously fidgeted on her Daddeh’s lap, she hated rides in the metal munstah, she didn’t make bad poopies though, but let loose some noxious, nervous farts! “Daddeh, are we awmoss home?” The large male anthro rottweiler smiled at her and placed a rainbow hand-paw on her cute little head. “Yes, babygirl, we’re almost there.” His silver nose twitched. Ugh, old fluffy farts were the worst!

The taxi driver forced a smile as he got paid. He was glad to have the fluffy and anthro out of his cab! Anthros still made him pretty nervous and the mini horse-thing’s farts were deadly! He peeled away from the small house, leaving fluffy and owner at the curb.

Abbie happily tapped her hoofsies on the gravel of their driveway, almost dragging her Daddeh by the leash. She made a beeline to the outside poopies place to make good poopies in the front yard. Hadrian waited patiently, leaning on his cane. “We’ve got to go in for a while, Daddy can’t stand up any longer.” He spoke softly to his fluffy. She hurried her short leggies along to match his stride.

Once inside, Hadrian unbuckled her pretty blue harness and took it off her. The tags jingled softly. He set her down and made his way to his chair and eased into it. Abbie trotted after him, panting softly. She sat in front of his legs and stared up at him with one, big, sad little eye. “Okay, girl. C’mere!” He lifted her into his lap and stroked her long fur. He had to think about this pretty hard.

Hadrian had rescued Abbie, adopting her from the shelter. She was confiscated from a mill and was poorly bred. Her hips had always been creaky and she had bad teeth. They adopted her out as an elderly mare, but upon her first vet visit, he learned she wasn’t even a year old yet! Her poor hips got worse with age and she had needed many teeth to be extracted. No matter what, Hadrian loved her. Then, at daycare she had been playing with a big earthy friend and lost her left eye! Shih-tzhu fluffies had much bigger eyes than normal fluffies did, they also had weaker eye muscles. His poor girl had been through a lot. He wasn’t so sure he wanted another fluffy just yet, but also didn’t want to feel like he was replacing her when she died.

Abbie once loved her stuffie friends, especially the squeaker ones. She had also loved her treats. Now, she just liked taking naps. She didn’t even go on walks anymore, which was okay because Hadrian couldn’t walk very far anymore. She wouldn’t even get the mail with him. They had a fenced in backyard where Hadrian would sit and Abbie would nap in the warm grass…or cold snow. Outside reminded her of her older sissy, who had gone forever sleepies a few years ago. She had reached twenty! Outside was her favorite place, that’s where Abbie would dream of her.

A younger, full time fluffy… Hadrian snapped out of it when he heard a knock at the door. “Come on in!” He yelled. His cousin let herself in, dropping off her fluffies. A four year old earthy stallion who was a mottled black and grey with white, imagine a husky, but with a white penis shaped marking on his forehead instead of the regular ‘mask’. White hooves, tail and mane. Left eye was ice blue and right eye was half ice blue and half brown. This was Grant. The other was a little colt, a failed tuxedo unicorn. He had a black mane and tail, was mostly black with white on his chin, neck and part of his chest. A black spot on his chin like a cheesy soul patch and white socks, his hooves and horn were white. His little eyes were brown. This was Shakur Yin. Mimi always had Hadrian babysit her fluffies. They ran to him, chattering up a storm and waking the old fluffy from her nap. The owners chatted a while before Mimi left her fluffies for the night.

While Abbie no longer needed a saferoom, Hadrian still had one. Mostly for the cousins. She flapped her wingies and huffed. Now she had to be stuck in the saferoom! She preferred Daddeh’s lap, or her coveted spot in his bed. She lay on the soft, mostly purple octopus pet bed Daddeh got her. It was a skwishee-mellow pet bed, a type of stuffie fwend Daddeh collected. It was comfy and super soft, so she didn’t mind it. If Daddeh liked them, so did she. She watched Grant and Shakur Yin play and play until they collapsed beside her. They snuggled together to sleep.

After cousin Mimi came to get Grant and Shakur Yin, Daddeh said there was a surprise coming! Abbie begrudgingly allowed Daddeh to brush her fluff…usually she screamed and cried and Daddeh would just have the groomer cut her fluff short so the brushing wouldn’t take so long. She just never liked it, even though Daddeh was gentle where others had not been. Auntie ShyShy, who lived with them, seemed to be a little mad at Daddeh…then again, she was always mad at something!

When a metal munstah came into their driveway, Daddeh left her with Auntie ShyShy in the living room. The metal munstah left with a loud vroom! Abbie let out a nervous fart, which made the petite anthro cat frown. Her red eyes narrowing, “OMG, Abbie, did you have to shit your fluff?” The fluffy quivered, “Pwease Antee Cwab, nu bad wowdies!” Auntie ShyShy’s nickname was Crab…cuz she was pretty crabby in general. Daddeh said it was cuz she hated being so short. ShyShy sighed and adjusted her hearing aids. “Crap, I forgot. Sorry Bebe!” She ruffled Abbie’s mane.

Daddeh came back with a funny box in his arm. His cane tapping along with his steps. ShyShy smiled, her bright blue fur with bright pink tabby stripes fluffed up a bit and her whiskers flared out, “So is it what you spent so much on?” Daddeh and Auntie ShyShy lived together. They took care of each other, Daddeh’s see places didn’t see much and Auntie’s hear places didn’t hear much, well, one heard nothing. Abbie knew how Daddeh felt, her one see place didn’t see so much nowadays! She was a little sad she couldn’t help Daddeh see things anymore, but she had lived many forevers! She looked in Daddeh’s direction and waited for him to put the funny box down. He opened it slowly and gently dumped out its contents. Then he sat himself on the floor while ShyShy sat Abbie next to him.

Abbie cautiously sniffed the curled up and trembling black and white thing, “Wut am dis, Daddeh?” Suddenly, it began crying! She ran as fast as she could for Daddeh’s lap! It uncurled and cried some more! “Huhuhu! Wan Mummah! Huhuhu, nu huwt fwuffy! Fwuffy sowwy fo’ bad poopies!” The box was a bit smelly… Daddeh spoke softly, “It’s okay, Wade. I’m your Daddy, that’s Auntie ShyShy and this is Grandma Abbie!” He pointed to his youngest sister and then his old fluffy. The little alicorn stopped crying and sniffled.

Abbie stopped hiding and went to inspect the thing she now knew was another fluffy. “Daddeh, Wade am wike big sissy, a wittol bit.” Wade just let her look and sniff him all over. He was tiny and had long, thin leggies. He had a black horn and black and white wingies. His see places were brown, just like her big sissy’s had been! He was mostly white, like she had been. He had a black ‘mask’ like her, with a thick blaze. The difference was he had tan dots above his eyes and some tan on his cheeks, one side had more than the other, like he was supposed to have tan points but his muzzle was whited out. There were tan speckles along his muzzle. He had big, black splotches along his back and one on his rump. He had black speckles all over his leggies and tummy. Even his poopie place and no-no stick holder had black speckles! His mane was black with one white streak and his tail was black near the base and then all white. His hooves were white with little tan and black speckles. This wasn’t Jackie! She missed her sissy so much! She was a little mad at Daddeh now, so she backed away from the colt, “Daddeh, dis am bad su-pwise!”

Well, their first meeting could have gone better… Hadrian sighed and had trouble getting up off the floor. He scooped up Wade and Abbie dutifully followed her Daddeh to the saferoom. “Daddy has to foal-proof his room, so you two play together while Auntie ShyShy and I do that.” He placed Wade in the saferoom and Abbie waddled in. “Wuv ou Daddeh!” Wade and Abbie chirped out as he left.

Wade began to explore the fun toys! Some were new, Daddeh had gotten them shortly before Wade came. Some were old and Abbie had once played with them and one was… Abbie let out a screech and Wade instantly dropped the squeaky stuffed lamb with rainbow mittens, “Am Gwanmawe huwt?” The colt asked, eyes wide. Abbie waddled over and grabbed the stuffed lamb, “Wade nu can pway wiff dis! Dis am big sissy’s!” She waddled off to her pet bed, tucking the lamb underneath her to protect it.

Wade was very sad. He missed his bruddahs and his sissy and mummah too! Granmare didn’t seem to like him. She yelled at him for being too loud, too hyper or touching certain toys. She didn’t let him sleep in the cool bed she laid in, so he had to sleep on the pillow instead. It was like this every time Daddeh put them in the saferoom, or when they went outside. When they slept in Daddeh’s bed, Abbie slept on the opposite side of Daddeh from him.

It had been a few days and Wade finally broke down in the saferoom. “Wai Gwanmawe nu wike Wade? Cuz Wade am munstah? Wai Gwanmawe nu pway wiff Wade? W-Wade nee huggies an wuv! Pwease?” He cried pitifully.

Abbie frowned at first. Wade was so dang noisy! She just wanted to sleep and he kept talking. Then she noticed his saddie wawas and huffed to herself. Munstah? Please! Her big sissy was a wingy-pointy fluffy! She sat up and gave Wade a bop on top of his head, “Nu am munstah, am awwicown. Ou Nu am big sissy. Am Wade…Wade am wike Gwant an Sakuuw Yin. Tu muchies wouwd fo’ Gwanmawe! Tu muchies pway! Gwanmawe nu wike pway, nu wike wouwd. Wike sweepy timesies and nu tawkies time!” She stomped her hoofsies for emphasis!

Wade’s crying got louder. Abbie sighed, she’ll never have any sleep like this! “Wissen hewe, Ou am nu Jakee, bu Ou am Wade. Daddeh wuv Wade.” He bowed his head and flinched when she wrapped a foreleg around him and pulled him close. “Gwanmawe am sowwies. Am owd mawe, missies big sissy…Daddeh finded Wade fow tu hewp Gwanmawe.” It felt like Daddeh was replacing big sissy, but then Abbie realized Daddeh was just a big silly. He thought getting a babbeh that was a lot like big sissy would make her like him more than any other babbeh!

Wade snuggled into her, “Gwanmawe wike Wade?” She shook her head, “Gwanmawe wuv Wade.” She cuddled him for a while, then invited him into the octopus bed. They slept for a while, then Wade got up to play. “Gwanmawe, pway?” Abbie grumbled, “Nu pway…buh can watchy tee-bee!” Wade left the fun toys and ran to Abbie’s side, “Otay!” They watched tv together happily.

The next day, after being pestered for what felt like forever, Abbie finally agreed to play with the colt. She was slow and waddled around. She picked up one of her old stuffie friends and began to play pretend with Wade. At first, she was really bad at it, then she was having just as much fun as the little colt!

Soon, they were pretty close and Hadrian saw his old Abbie once more. Her eye seemed to get brighter and she even started initiating their play sessions, demanding Wade stop what he was doing to play with her. When Grant and Shakur Yin came over, she was very protective of Wade and yelled quite a lot. Shakur Yin was about as old as Wade. The little unicorn and alicorn became the best of friends. They liked to play roughly because Grant did and this made Abbie very mad! She gave them many bops and time-outs in the corners until they behaved more to her liking. This took several forevers for Grant to play nicer. The cousins went home after a few hours and Abbie was about to take a nap.

Daddeh came in and opened the saferoom gate. He had a box in one hand and they followed him to the living room. Daddeh called it the FWUFFbox. He had his phone out and was taking pictures of the two as they opened the box to inspect the insides. There were three new toys and two bags of nummies inside! There was also a harder nummy. Abbie picked up the fishy stuffie friend. It made squeakies and its fins made fun crinkly sounds! There was also a nutria stuffie friend and an alligator in water stuffie friend! Wade and Abbie asked to try the hood smelling nummies. Daddeh opened them up. He made the biscuit nummies soft for Abbie, she barely had any teefies to eat with, while Wade happily crunched his.

Soon, it had been a month and Wade was growing fast! His long leggies seemed to get longer. Daddeh said when it was mail time, there’d be a new FWUFFbox for them! Abbie happily ate her soft food. It was tiny chunks of soft food with gravy. She left a few bites and some gravy in her bowl. Wade happily munched his kibbles, then licked Abbie’s bowl clean for her. It had taken him some time to not be jealous of her. He finally understood Abbie barely had any teefies for chewing, that’s why he got to have hard nummies for chewing and teething on. They had an unspoken rule, he’d sit beside her and patiently wait and she’d save him a taste.

Daddeh called them and they happily came to his chair. He put a bright blue harness on Abbie and attached her bright blue leash. Then he attached a rainbow leash to Wade’s rainbow collar. Wade still wasn’t used to Daddeh’s cane, so he walked beside Abbie to stay far from it as they went to get the mail. All in all, the fluffies lived pretty happy lives. Wade spent a lot of time in the saferoom, as he was still learning where good peepees and poopies go. Abbie helped him with it, but it still seemed hard for him to master. He’d rather be glued to Daddeh’s side or zoom through the house like a bat outta hell! They both enjoyed good belly rubs and napping on Daddeh’s lap while he watched tv.
