Hasbio's Hassenfelds

While doing my research to uncover the creation of the fluffy pony fandom on 4chan’s /co/ and /mlp/, I decided to hunt down the name of Hasbio. I vaguely remembered that the name Hasbio had been used before the whole fluffy pony thing was created, and sough to prove this claim of mine. Sadly, desuarchive’s of threads only goes up to 2012.

However, I came across something else:

Thank you for shopping with Hassenfeld Brothers Bio-Engineering Specialists!

Congratulations! Your new My Little Pony© is sure to bring you years of joy!

This was the beginning of the Hassenfeld meme on 4chan’s /mlp/. The name, taken from the original name of Hasbro - Hassenfeld Brothers - was then applied to the subject matter. Although not intended to be “fluffy pony 2.0”, the theme of a genetically engineered pet developed by Hasbio (short for Hassenfeld Brothers Bio*-Engineering)* definitely raised a few eyebrows. The threads died out after a while, but one can still mention or talk about Hassenfelds on 4chan’s /mlp/, whereas anything about fluffy ponies on /mlp/ WILL be deleted.

Thus, I have decided to use the name “Hassenfeld” to describe a genetically engineered pet that is a 1:1 recreation of any character from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Hassenfelds thus should have the following requirements:

  • look as much as MLP characters as possible(i.e., down to how the hooves and snouts look on the show)

  • speak like their MLP counterparts as much as possible (i.e., without the infamous fluffspeak lisp)

  • behave like their MLP counterparts as much as possible (i.e., I’m not going to do the spiel, go watch an episode of MLP to figure out how they act)

The purpose of this post, which I had also posted on the reddit, is to give context to a later write-up that I will do regarding how different fluffy ponies have become from the ponies of the MLP fandom.

Or basically, how an intelligent fluffy is NOT an MLP.

Yay fandom history!

You should check out the writeup I did on the early MLP phase of the fluffy fandom if you haven’t alread.

I have not! It’ll definitely be quite a read! Thanks!

Well.

This is interesting:

And holy shit, they even have a pastebin: Hassenfeld Pony OP - Pastebin.com

I am now inclined to say that this pic by @anon3053411 is a good example of what should be considered a “Hassenfeld” within the fluffy fandom:

Hassenfields came after fluffy pony. It’s an interesting general. While not directly related, in some ways it’s similar to fluffy pony but manages to sidestep a lot of the issues that the fandom had with the fluffy threads. The threads are kept intentionally rare, only being posted every few months, and have some crossover with the PiE threads in terms of themes and content.

I think just the decision to use Hasbio of all things is kinda suspicious. Not to mention the whole thing is just a setup for pony pet.

Hassenfelds are relevant to fluffies because, if people are going to argue about fluffies being perfected, I feel Hassenfelds represent that. And yes, Hassenfelds are supposed to exactly MLP, whereas a lot of current fluffy designs have moved on from MLP. For instance I wouldn’t consider a normal speaking Squeakyfriend fluffy to be an "MLP "
