Damn, censoring PETA from stories really kills some of the hilarity.
Because it’s 100% something they would do if they had the resources.

Don’t think using their name in a parody sense is going to trigger anything substantial though.
When was the last time PETA actally won a case?

Don’t bother with some people, they ain’t worth it.

Plus, PETA can’t really complain about being parodied, because…

I don’t even know why I bothered engaging him. Not doing that again.

So these are going to be bare minimum fluffies, , more obviously biotoy than animal-adjacent, probably more obviously programmed and with rough edges/glaring issues? And totally naive? Hmm.

@Virgil This is a good example. I think the “Edit out PETA from EVERYTHING because they might accidentally find us and maybe do a frivolous lawsuit against a thing that is not only protected by free use law, but is also something THEY THEMSELVES do all the time” rule is a bit much. ESPECIALLY for veteran posters that have hundreds of stories they have to go through line-for-line just to appease a group that we already hate.

Plus if PETA finds us they have a LOT more things to tear us apart for anyways, and will totally be able to associate [[GENERIC ACTIVIST GROUP]] as a proxy for their own organization.

And keeping in mind that you can only edit so many stories in one day now. How long would it take for some people?

For the record, if Virgil says we can just use PETA again, I’m probably not gonna undo the PETA > PLASMA edit. Unless edit limits are removed, and I’m assuming that’s sticking around for the foreseeable future.

I for one explicitly disagree with this decision and unless Virgil provides a concrete reason as to why it would be a threat Then I’ll just post anything that has do do with PETA on the SubReddit instead.

And personally if I had to edit a huge amount of stories with such limited tools I would just leave them for the mod team to delete. As I assume the mod team will have to do for all the people that didn’t read this post/have moved on from FC, and ALSO hope that the mass deletion doesn’t destroy the site as it’s apparently held together by school glue to begin with.

I also think it’s a little tactless to make an announcement like “We are celebrating the history of Fluffies today! And also all your stories have to be edited to change that history.”

Sounds less like biotoys, more like people. Or at least biotoys which will learn, then pass on what they learned in their programming like copy/pasting for subsequent generations.

If later on they are born knowing words like Enfie, but these Fluffies don’t have most of their words for things in general yet, then this would be the generation that begins defining what Fluffies would become from the starting point of just being a living version of the cartoon they are based on. If they can’t even recognize what is edible or not then they’re dumber than how most people write them, though if they can count to ten instead of four then maybe they’re better at longterm planning and conceptualizing resources?

Maybe the most perfect generation like they end up breeding with later knockoffs or cheaper ones, or maybe natural selection would favor increasingly worse ones in the tradeoff between individual survivability and population expansion.

Maybe its just a brain fog day, but I’m honestly having difficulty writing something that incorporates what makes these more unique. I keep defaulting to just the human perspective in a boring way, and it feels difficult to portray a Fluffverse reaction instead of a realistic “oh shit, talking animals, I’m rich/this is my childhood dream come true!” reaction.

Like, it just becomes deciding to breed rabbits
or adopting a bunch of cats except they can talk. Even writing some kind of insane fundie racist conspiracy theorists thinking they found a bunch of things designed to make white people have less children and killing them is all about the humans.

Writing them surviving would be more like the start entry to a saga, like writing Elfquest as badgers with speech impediments.

Maybe there is something in why got transported halfway across the country to dump off in another place? But I’m struggling to understand the logic to either release, as it would be pretty clear they are more useful as mouthpieces for commercials and web pieces for an advocacy group, plus PETA tends to have more of a policy of putting animals down or sticking them with foster caregivers than actually releasing them. Which means creating this group from scratch and giving logic for such strange activity.

Plus, if they are conducting longevity testing than everything else in theory would have been complete. That’s Quality Assurance, you don’t stress test outdated or unpolished prototype builds of shit.

A’right, let’s presume i am an alien, who doesn’t know much about web-culture; it sounds like reddit has crappy content, or a toxic community…is reddit a bad thing as a website?

I mean you can just remove the emote if it’s that much of a problem.

Yes.

Think about it.

It’s just an internet culture thing where it’s popular to hate on Reddit because bad content comes from there. Despite the boom of Reddit reaction content on YouTube and other demonstrations of really good content coming from it.

Much like how people associate DeviantArt with weird obscure porn even though it has a huge amount of amazing artwork on there.

PETA used to do that shit to draw attention to themselves, they have cited the Pokemon series as teaching kids that nature should be befriended because it can fuck your shit up before. Their PR team just kinda does shit on its own after the huge success of their public nudity protests showing controversy sells tote bags. Folks on their side ate it up, I myself wanted a Murder King t-shirt as a teen even though I often ate there just to be edgy.

Fluffies came about when they still did stuff like that, and the worst ones were recent.

They also knocked it off for the most part these days since it got them such negative attention. Nowadays they just advocate for legal changes and rely on alliances with everything from vegetarian food producers to amateur artists to celebrities to rescue groups to other advocacy organizations with less of a mailing list.

The most controversial recent one is them publishing an article saying Lego should rebrand its Barn set to a Sanctuary set. Even then, they didn’t attack Lego the way they used to, just put out a statement that they could help show kids that animal doesn’t automatically equal food and that vegetarian diets can help fight climate change.

Using PETA was amusingly relevant back then, but these days its kind of played out. Both sides of the political fringe make more sense in America these days, harder to find anyone crazier than the fucks who think horse deworming paste cures all disease, that JFK will rise from the grave to run for president again, and that vampires rule the world. However those fuckers are also likely to go ballistic on the community, so maybe not offending them as a group is a better idea.

Honestly, a bunch of Team Rocket looking motherfuckers who can be assigned any trait of any batshit insane group of people without contradiction makes sense for writing going forward.

(Recieved during typing:)

Hmm, my guess came close reading that, but what’s your opinion, NAA?

People hate Reddit because their site is run by babies who shill the corporations bankrolling them and ban anyone who disagrees with the opinions of the people in charge.

Which is how this community wants to be like sometimes. Hence it is an insult.
