Kimmi, the Quadruple Amputee. (rockbox)

Kimmi rocked back and forth on her pillow. She was a beautiful, three year old lavender unicorn, with a long white mane, and little diamond shapes in her eyes. Last month, she lost her legs.

She had always had issue with her legs. Ever since she was born, her legs would get really hurty and swell up real bad. The vet could never figure out why, and he was the smartest person Kimmi knew! Her condition kept getting worse. A month and a half ago, her Mummah came into her saferoom, crying. She said she had to have a really important conversation with Kimmi, and that it would be very scary.

Kimmi’s legs had become too much a risk for complications. With no diagnosis, the vets couldn’t find a treatment that worked. There was two options: She could have all four legs amputated, or she could choose to have “Youth-in-asia” put her to forever sleepies with no pain. Kimmi wasn’t sure why Asian kids had to do it, but she was sure that neither of those options sounded fun. She cried and cried, and Mummah held her all night, crying as well. Kimmi was a very good Fluffy, and had even fostered an orphaned feral babbeh once. Why was this happening to her?

Kimmi thought long and hard about what to do. Mummah said that Kimmi’s opinion was the most important thing, and that she would do whatever she chose. This is heavy, heavy shit for a creature with the mental capacity of a 4 year old. Eventually, Kimmi made a choice. She wanted to live. She knew she wouldn’t be able to run and give huggies anymore, but her Mummah was a wonderful woman. She would surely think of something.

Currently, that “something” was a call button system. Mummah had Kimmi set up on a big pile of pillows, facing the TV. Mummah bought lots and lots of new channels for her to watch, so she wouldn’t get bored as quickly. To her left, she had a nice fresh bowl of water. She couldn’t walk to the litter box anymore, so she had to wear a diaper, but she was used to it. She wore diapers when she still had leggies and they hurt too much to walk. When her water ran out, or her diaper was full, or she just really needed a hug, she pressed a button with her nose that sent a signal to Mummah’s phone saying Kimmi needed something. There was also another button that was ONLY for 'mergencies. Thankfully, she hadn’t needed it yet!

Mummah was a writer, and worked from home 4 days of the week. On Wednesday, she had to go into the office. Whenever Mummah wasn’t home, Kimmi would get an extra absorbent diaper and an extra big bowl of water, alongside some of her favourite kibbles. She had a little remote control for her TV that she could operate with her muzzle, so she could change the channel, or turn it off for naptime. Sometimes, one of Mummahs friends, or Mummah’s Mummah and Daddeh came over and played with her a bit!

It wasn’t a glamorous life, and she huuhuu’d a lot most days. But it gave her equal amounts of heart happies to know her Mummah and her Mummah’s friends cared about her so much! Soon, she’ll be healed up enough that her own Fluffy friends can come visit, and in a month or two, she’ll be attending a brand new daycare with a special room for disabled Fluffys! Kimmi doesn’t know how much a month is, but she knows it’s not quite soon but also not forever.

That’s enough mulling on her life. Her favourite human show, Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, is on now! For the next little bit, she’ll swoop away into her favourite fictional world, and forget all her worries, even if just for a bit.

evil rockbox turns your abuse trope into hugbox! MWAHAHAHA! i wanted to think a bit about what the best way to provide a decent quality of life for a pillowfluff would be. this is a oneshot for now, but i may write about kimmi again eventually! her life isnt perfect, but it’s the best it can be, and thankfully, she’s a smart enough fluff to realize that.

Pretty good setup. Hopefully you build to some good conflict! Can I ask if you already have your entire story planned out, or are you making it up as you go?

Keep up the good work!

Mr. Rogers was literally a human hug. If anyone can show a fluffy how to keep finding the silver lining, it’s him. I miss him acutely.

i like to have a general idea formed, and sort of fill it out as i go! for this one, i knew i wanted to write about a pillow, and specifically find a way one could hubbox-ily lose its legs other than being rescued from abuse. i also wanted to touch on both the negatives AND positives of its life. from there i just… started writing and saw what happened!
