Inspired by a Warhammer Fantasy shitpost, originally going to be more comedic before i decided to take a more serious aproach
Still can’t believe i started writing last night and finished this morning, while my last story took 3 weeks to finish. Don’t procrastinate people
Prologue
It was a morning like any other in the city-nation of Fluffyland. The birds were singing, the flowers were blooming, and teenagers were driving tanks down the street. There wakes our protagonist, Joshua Conroy, the sound of treads on asphalt serving as his alarm
He begins his morning routine. Five minutes of stretching, brushing his teeth and washing his face. Moving to the kitchen to prepare his SuperCoffee, choconilla flavor of course, he just needs to get some fresh milk
“Good morning, Sunshine”
“Gud bwite time, daddeh!”
Sunshine was a plant fluffy of the milk fruit varity, meaning every day they would have fresh, delicious milk ready for harvest. The best way to describe the flavor was powdered milk prepared with tea and mixed with honey. One only had to be careful to not drink too much in one day. He missed Cinnamon
“Seen anything interesting this early morning?” he asked while squeezing one bulb, Sunshine ‘coo’ing in the process
“Sunshine onwy see Cath-win weavin’ eawwy, Sunshine fink she haff nyu speshal fwen”
Joshua snickered at the comment while heating the milk. Catherine was his neighbor, and one of the very few anthros living in Fluffyland, normally leaving early to open her gym and do a few light exercises
“You know, you always say that about everyone you see leaving home earlier than usual”
“An’ Sunshine am awways wite”
“Right. Gotta go wake up our girl” he said having finished preparing the coffee, receiving a simple ‘otay’
Opening the door to the safe room, there lay Lemonade, his fluffy and most successful experiment. Her usual nice and polite attitude completely betrayed her past as a spoiled rotten ‘bestest’ baby, AND he did it without any physical or psychological scars. Her name come from her yellow coat with lighter accents, with the freckle patterns on her cheeks resembling ice cubes. Being an unicorn also helped, as the horn could be seen as a straw
He thinks this is strange though, usually the room alarm plays right about-
BEEEEP BEEEP BEEEEP
…now
Instead of jumping in fear like most fluffies would, Lemonade peacefully wakes up from her slumber. She truly slept like a rock. But nothing wakes a fluffy up quite like seeing their owner
“Gud bwite time, daddeh!” she said while jumping to her hooves
“Good morning. You ready for today?” he said while sipping his coffee
“Yes! Wemonade suuu ‘cited tu meet nyu fwen! Wan’ see hao micwo fwuffy wook!”
A few days ago Joshua volunteered to help a newcomer to find friends for his micro. It took some time to get Lemonade to grasp the concept of big fluffies that are the size of foals, but after that she agreed without hesitation. And now the day had finally arrived
“Awesome, let’s just have breakfast and then we can leave”
“Otay!”
Both went to the kitchen to eat the most important meal of the day. Lemonade had her usual kibble, which was way better than what even Hasbio offered, while being a fraction of the cost. Fluffyland rocks. Meanwhile, Joshua prepared brazilian style pancakes. Mixed wheat-cricket flour for the dough, with dashes of diced bacon and spinach, wrapped around the smoked ground beef interior. Just like grandma used to make
After both had their fill, they moved outside to enter the car. That’s when Joshua remembers something
“Oh, one thing” he said while opening the car doors “The micro’s daddy, Mike, he said he has a short temper, so try to be nice to him”
“Pfft, siwwy daddeh! Wemonade nebah be meanie tu odah fwuffies! Am gon’ be bestest fwen ebah tu nyu fwen!” said the mare. Best way he found to cure a ‘bestest’ baby was to direct their desire to be the ‘bestest’ to something positive. Didn’t take long for the practice to start being used even outside of Fluffyland
After strapping both of them in (he would have to thank the guy who created human/fluffy compatible seat belts), he started driving. It didn’t take long to reach the place, a local park that was empty around this time, and soon they were disembarking from the car. And there he was, the man named Mike
“Good morning, Mike?” Joshua asked reaching his hand for a handshake
“That’s me” answered Mike, shaking Joshua’s hand “And i suppose that’s Lemonade?”
“Das’ wite! Nao whewe am nyu fwuffy fwen?!”
Mike moved his foot to the side, and a small figure could be seen scurrying to attempt to stay hidden
“C’mon Barney, we talked about this, you gotta introduce yourself if you wanna make friends”
After a few moments, the small fluffy slowly trotted into view. He had a deep violet coat with dark blue accents and jade eyes. Lemonade found herself enchanted by the striking combination of colors. Then she slowly moved up to him, almost jumping as she went
“Hewwo!” she said very heartly “Am Wemonade!”
“…am Bawney” he said very timidly
The difference in attitude was just as striking as the difference in colors. But Lemonade was a smart fluffy, which isn’t saying much of course, but it meant she knew how to break the ice. She looked up to Joshua and both gave a knowing nod. Joshua reached into his pocket
“Wan pway baww?”
And then Joshua dropped a small ball in between them. Lemonade gave it a light touch towards Barney, waiting a response from the stallion. After a few moments, Barney pushed it back, and soon enough they were both chasing after it through the park, Lemonade trotting as to not outpace Barney
Mike let out a heavy sigh
“Seems they’re getting along well” said Mike
“Fluffies are like that” answered Joshua
Both of them sat at a nearby bench, just watching the fluff balls playing. It was a sight that brought peace of mind
“So, why did you do this?” asked Joshua
“Do what?”
“This, like, why ask someone for a meeting with their fluffy? Is Barney really that shy?”
“Oh, well…” Mike gave a long pause “He doesn’t have good experience with other fluffies”
“Why? Fluffies are like children, they can get along with each other after just meeting” Joshua said while gesturing at the two
“Yes, but…” Mike gave another pause “Children are cruel. Imagine what growing up was like to him”
“What happened?” Joshua asked, concerned
“They grew up, and he didn’t”
Once again the two watched both the fluffies playing while in silence, with them both now just tossing the ball back and forth to each other. They were out of ear range now
“Tehehe, Wemonade wuv nyu fwen!”
“Bawney wuv nyu fwen tu! Wemonade am fun to pway wiff”
“Tank ou, Bawney! Wemonade nu kno’ wha’ siwwy daddeh mean wen say ou’ haff showt tempew”
Lemonade pushed the ball back to Barney, but it simply bounced off of him, as he didn’t move to catch it. Looking back at him, his expression had changed from happy and cherrie to… blank
“…showt…?” he said, his voice just as empty as his expression
“No” said Mike, he knew what was likely happening
Lemonade, meanwhile, quickly caught up to the situation
“Ah, sowwy, Wemonade mean tu say ou’ am wike big fwuffy!” Lemonade said, meaning to say an adult fluffy
“Big… fwuffy…?!”
Barney was now gritting his teeth, his left eye twitching and a bulging vein in his forehead. Lemonade thought she needed to deescalate the situation
“NU! Wemonade am sowwy! Nu mean be wude! Jus’ wan say ou’ am gweat pewson- NU! Jus’ fink ou’ haff bewy wawge heawt- NUUUHUuhuu… Wemonade sowwy, nu am gud at smoww tawk- SCREEE!”
Suddenly, and with strength unbefitting of a micro, Barney tackled Lemonade’s face, throwing her to the ground. Upon seeing this both Joshua and Mike ran towards them
“DUMMEH MAWE! OU’ AM BIGGEST DUMMEH! GON’ GIV’ OU’ WOSTEST HUWTIES EBAH! GO FOWEBAH SWEEPIES!”
“SCREEE! DADDEH! DADDEH! SCREEE!”
Joshua was the first to arrive, literally ripping Barney away from the now crying Lemonade. Mike quickly arrived next
“WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!” Joshua asked, or rather, demanded an answer
“L-Look, i can explain-”
“HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THAT?! HE JUST POUNCED ON HER!”
“I know, and i CAN explain, just please, calm down. Let’s have a talk”
Joshua was still angry, but hearing Lemonade whimpering and seeing Barney’s expression switch from anger to shock to shame calmed him down enough. He gave a deep breath, and relaxed
“Fine, but this had better be good”
“Thank you”
Epilogue
Mike gave a long explanation about Barney’s life before he adopted him. ‘Cruel’ didn’t quite describe it, those fluffies were downright sadistic to him, Mike having to actually censor quite a few words for Lemonade’s sake. All the while, Barney was back at hiding behind Mike’s foot. He would occasionally cast gazes at Lemonade, but would quickly look away when she looked back
“You asked before why i did this” Mike said after the explanation “That’s why, Barney needs to learn to open himself, to interact with others. Being isolated as he was until now isn’t good for him”
“I see” Jushua said. He was no longer angry, but still a bit uneasy after the whole ordeal
“Look, i’m sorry about-”
“I’M not the one in need of apologies”
Joshua gestures to Lemonade, now quietly standing besides him. But as Mike went to speak again, Joshua interrupted, again
“And YOU aren’t the one who needs to apologize”
Mike looked back at Barney. Surprisingly, he didn’t need to say anything, Barney taking the initiative and stepping towards Lemonade. He still couldn’t look her in the eyes
“B-Bawney am s-sowwy, nu mean be meanie an’ giv’ Wemonade h-huwties, am b-b-biggest dummeh…”
Barney didn’t expect to be forgiven. It wasn’t the first time he lashed out against another fluffy, even when they were nice to him. And they NEVER forgave him, and why should they? He was just a dumb small fluffy that could only hurt those around him. Lemonade stepped forward, he closed his eyes already anticipating the sorry hoofsies
He suddenly found himself wrapped around Lemonades from legs. He didn’t understand, Huggies? For him? Why?
“Am otay” Lemonade said, not a tinge of anger or fear in her voice “Wemonade fowgib ou’ ”
Those words pierced Barney’s heart like a dagger. He hugged Lemonade back hard, unable to hold the tears building up in his eyes. A lifetime of frustration and sadness, he let it all out, and Lemonade took it all, gently patting his back all the while. The scene brought both men to tears themselves. For the first time in his life, Barney did not feel alone
He felt… warm
