Moonlight Fluffies ! The new limited addition Sleepy Time Toy (By: Vvronica)

My entry for Ponepone’s subspecies competition Moonlight Fluffies!

This may contain: an old tv sitting in the middle of a living room

While lounging on your couch in the early to mid-2000s, flicking through channels, a kids program plays in the background. The usual ads roll by, each one as predictable as the last. But then, one ad stops you in your tracks.
You lean forward, intrigued, as your attention is completely captured. What’s this?

You don’t know why, but something about it just clicks. The colors, the vibe, the promise of something you didn’t know you were missing.

Before you even realize what’s happening, you’re on your feet, reaching for your shoes, heart pounding with the kind of enthusiasm that’s been long buried. You grab your jacket and head out the door.

Driving through neighborhoods with a sense of urgency, you make your way to the nearest Toys “R” Us. The neon lights flicker, the parking lot is practically empty.

The familiar but now forgotten scent of plastic and novelty fills the air as you enter. The store feels like a relic of another time. You gaze upon Rows upon rows of toys.

You walk the aisles with purpose, scanning for something that should feel easy to find but doesn’t. You pass shelves of action figures, board games, and stuffed animals, most of them seemingly untouched for who knows how long. But then, in the farthest corner, almost hidden behind a disorganized pile of plushies, you spot them. The ‘Moonlight Fluffies.’ all cooped up together in a cage that looked more like a hampster habitat then anything.

You begin scanning the informational tags plastered On top of the glass.

General Characteristics: Moonlight Fluffies are a subspecies of fluffy ponies, characterized by softer coats. As well as glow in the dark keratin, noses, and galaxy star patterns.

ˏ⸉ˋ‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩̥̩‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩̥̩‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‘⸊ˎ

Demeanor/Behavior: Moonlight Fluffies are generally sleepy and peaceful creatures, known for their soothing lullabies known to bring peaceful dreams to those around them.

Senses: Moonlight Fluffies have heightened nocturnal senses, allowing them to see clearly in the dark and detect even the faintest sounds. They are however, very sensitive to light.

ˏ⸉ˋ‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩̥̩‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩̥̩‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‘⸊ˎ

Ecology: Moonlight Fluffies form tight-knit herds with other fluffies. roaming the night under the light of the moon. They are herbivores, feeding on the vegetation that grows among the soil.

Special Abilities: Moonlight Fluffies while they sleep rest and or comfortable let off soft cooing purrs that have been found to reduce stress in humans and other animals. They also were imbued with the scent of flowers to further enhance their comfort.

ˏ⸉ˋ‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩̥̩‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩̥̩‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‘⸊ˎ

Babies: Moonlight fluffies have a strong bond with their mothers, and it’s not uncommon to see a mother singing lullabies to their baby as they drift off to sleep. These babies need constant care and attention, and should be kept warm and comfortable with blankets and soft surfaces to rest on. Additionally, they should eat a special diet consisting of milk and nutrient-dense food, as their little bodies need a lot of energy to grow and thrive. Overall, moonlight fluffies and their mothers share a special connection that is vital for the baby’s development.

ˏ⸉ˋ‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩̥̩‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩̥̩‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‘⸊ˎ

Reproduction: One of the unique characteristics of Moonlight Fluffies is their tendency to spend a lot of time asleep. This makes it easy for stallion Moonlights to breed Fluffy mares while they’re asleep. Additionally, due to their nocturnal nature, male Moonlights may also breed sleeping mare Fluffies, resulting in more frequent breeding opportunities compared to other fluffy species. This unique reproductive behavior helps maintain the population of Moonlight Fluffies and contributes to their continued existence.

Breeding: When Moonlight fluffies are bred with normal fluffies, their unique genes can become diluted, leading to reduced singing abilities and the potential loss of physical traits such as glow-in-the-dark coats and star patterns. This is because the normal fluffy genes may dominate or interfere with the Moonlight fluffy genes, causing the desired traits to diminish or disappear altogether. As a result, the offspring of crossbreeding may not possess the full range of traits and abilities of pureblood Moonlight fluffies.

ˏ⸉ˋ‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩̥̩‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩͙‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‿̩̥̩‿̩̩̽‿̩͙‘⸊ˎ

Extras: One interesting behavior of Moonlight fluffies is that they associate darkness with nighttime. If you place a blanket over them, or put them in fully enclosed rooms without windows or light. they may mistake it for the night sky and think it’s time to Sing. If you keep them in the dark, you can force them to sing for extended periods. Since they associate night with being awake., they may feel compelled to continue singing when they hear you, even if they’re exhausted. This unethical practice can cause the Moonlight fluffies to suffer from Loosing their singing voices causing heavy distress.

WARNINGS:

Moonlight fluffies are quite sensitive to light, which is why they spend most of their time sleeping during the day. Exposing them to bright lights for prolonged periods of time can be harmful to their eyes and cause discomfort. Therefore, it’s important to maintain a dimly lit environment or shady areas for them to rest.

To ensure that your Moonlight fluffy can keep track of the natural cycle of the day, it’s important to either keep them in a room with a window that allows sunlight to enter. Or turn lights on and off according to when you want the fluffy to be awake sleep, and sing. However make sure nighttime is no more or less than 8 hours long.

These are so great as a concept, and I love the art.

(Also: “Mummah espwain con-sen-shoo-ul som-no-feew-wee-ah to fwuffy, need ask befowe mawe gu sweepies!” is not a sentence I thought would occur even to me, and yet, here we are. I blame you.)

I love this, but I’m confused by how small that TV in the picture is. Most of my childhood was during the mid-late 2000s and our TV was much larger (not extremely large, but significantly larger than the one pictured) and thinner. Though we were middle class, so maybe working class families were different.

That’s a CRT TV from the late 80s, so not quite representative of a TV from the early 2000s (most people would be making the jump to flatscreens about then).

@Vvronica One question on the moonlight fluffies:

However make sure nighttime is no more or less than 8 hours long.

So what happens in winter or other times of the year when the night is significantly longer than 8 hrs? It also sounds like keeping moonlight fluffies in areas where polar night or twilight occurs would just be extended torture.

They would be completely unable to exist in the wild - most nocturnal predators hunt by sound, so they’d get eaten in very short order.

I also love the throwback to Toys R Us. That’s a blast from the past.

Grew up in Alaska, immediately wondered about the same thing.

Working out which times of year have exactly 8 hours of night is very dependent on latitude, but in the UK, that only occurs at the beginning and end of ‘summer’ (yes, I can hear the laughing in the back) in June and August, so July they’d get too little sleep and every other time of the year, they’d get too much.

Imagine adopting one of these along w regular fluffies.
"Stahp singies dummeh twinkly fwuffy. Fwuffy nu can sweepies!
And then the moonlight fluffy will be depressed cos it can’t fulfill it’s purpose

So, in areas where there is night and or days longer then the usual. The owners can set up, lights that would dim, and turn off according to when you want the fluffy to be awake and sleep. (Artificial lights work just as well!)

Also yes! Moonlight fluffies are absolutely horrible in the wild. So finding them feral is very very rare.

When I was growing up during the early 2000’s (family was working class.) We had this bulky retro esq tv that still played VHS!
Around till I was in- late elementary. But yeah! Everyone’s experience differs. I just thought it would be atmospheric to include a nice little tv gif. ^^

Also here’s some extra art I did of them:

(Translations on the bottom just in case) my handwriting is bad.

After a minute of dark time: “twinkle, twinkle little star now I wonder where you are.”

After 8 hours: “hush little baby don’t say…word…” purr, yawn

After 24 hours: “huuu, huu, why ever night? So…sleepy fluffy wan sleep huu huuu-“ sob

1.) DO NOT leave moonlights unattended in dark rooms or under things they will sing until they pass out from exhaustion or die.

2.) Abused fluffies like this, with prolonged exposure will loose their singing voices causing heavy distress.

”Moonie wub friends! Moonie weccomends! To sweep all nigh’ the munsters won’t bite!”

SWOOSH ”Chirp.”

”SCREEEEEEEEEEE” “uh oh.”

Uh, it’s night. Eagles are diurnal, not nocturnal. Shouldn’t that be an owl instead?

Perhaps, it was for comedic effect.
