I prefer not to have such a cynical view as to consider it “cruel”. It could be the case that the foal is being cared for by a human owner, and thus has to use an alternative source of a Mummah song to pacify the foal and help it sleep. I used that approach when I was writing Chapter 1 of Avocado.
