Sirena or common name Mermaid in local folklore they exist not only in the sea but on fresh water lake and rivers especially waterfall. Most all stories they lure people usually young men to be drag and drown as sacrifice yearly. Some said they seek companionship or food supply.
And some they are naive that without thinking drowned a human who needs air to breath. But other stories they would give them something to drink or a kiss to have the ability to breath underwater.

There was an old vintage sci-fi short from the vintage Warren Adult magazine 1984 or Heavy Metal, the title was Deep Love were story about a mother and daughter mermaid who have been “dining” on humans they lure to drown and its the daughter’s time to “catch” prey.
Their next prey was a deep sea diver checking on corals and she lured him with her hypnotic powers and
but her mother some how can’t help wonder bout its oxygen line and when to check it and to her horror its NOT from a ship but a SPACESHIP.
As she hurried down to warn her daughter it was too late she was caught via strong embrace of a humanoid alien ( its a golem like texture no face at all) and the last panel the daughter cried out to her mother. " Y-your right mother, survival is the law of the seaaaaa!"

Kapre, its deaminor closed to a tikbalang a bit more chill in a way but will have to think of a good situation of its encounter.
Does this type of mermaid have an buttcrack, and if so, what do you think it tastes like?
I have a personal rule Don’t listen to the songs of a mermaid you will die

I’m curious how these mermaids and the scylla species interact. Does one prey on the other or do they try not to interact? Do they still need to reproduce with males? It’s like looking at people with high cache (mermaids) and people from heavier neighborhoods (scylla).

Yup, almost universal.
But some would do another gimmick to lure victims sometimes pretended to be drowning and cry for help.

They interact as they are Children of the Sea. Remember some said mermaids in reality are hideous monster that hides behind a pretty face.
In my lore like Scylla’s sea maiden kind, they do need males to mate. And like any old ones they would lure men by song or promised companionship and those men willing to be their mate will soon slowly became mermen or locally called Syokoy its closer to the Creature of the Black Lagoon type.

Oh wow, this is a nice twist instead of the usual “supernatural being eats Fluffy”
The supernatural being having pet Fluffies and drowning humans to provide the Fluffies with “friends” is delightfully creepy
