Plan to get better at fluffy art. Need input/tips

My current plan to get better at fluffy art. My ultimate goal is to create the ultimate fluffy simulator game I have in my mind. Therefore I need to learn every aspect of development including art.
Current goal is to be able to draw shitrats in any angle or circumstances without reference.

1.) Figure out your own artstyle and stick to it for a while. Should be simplistic. Easily repeatable. I should be able to draw 1 whole pony in a minute. Should trigger cute aggression effectively. Should resemble a pony.

Draw:

  • Fluffy standing in all fours and in all angles (front, side, back)(Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast)

  • Fluffy standing on two legs in all angles

  • Fluff sitting on its rump (front hooves raised and front hooves down) (front, side, back)(Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast)

  • Fluffy lying down on four legs (front, side, back)(Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast)

  • Fluffy lying down sideways (front, side, back)(Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast)

  • Fluffy covering eyes (lying down on stomach, sitting, backwards + rump raised)

  • Fluffy facial expressions (draw head only)(happy, sad, angry, crying, sleeping, apprehensive, wary, anxious, scared, shocked, pleading, begging, in agony, in concentration etc.)

  • Fluffy poses (wan huggie, wan upsie, happy n ready to jump like a dog pose tail wagging, dancie, running, waddling etc.)

Study different art styles:

  • to study diff artstyles draw the above in such and such’s artstyle

I think you have a good gameplan there. Pick and choose and bite from various artists then eventually you’ll get to your distinct fluffy style that works best for you. I’ve been here less than a year and my stuff is still developing as well, so my only real advice is to just keep at it. Also shading and line weight makes a big difference for dimension and depth.

Basically what you’ve been doing. Find a style you like and try to emulate it freehand without tracing. Never trace fluffies. Helps to follow an existing artist though for how the eyes should look, the snout, mouth, etc. You should end up developing your own style.
When I joined this site my inspiration was Magentademon. You can see how mine has changed over time from my first posts to now.

Also if you’re having trouble with something, don’t be afraid to hop in chat and ask. People are nice. Someone might even draw you a reference.

I started using blender to help with layout and perspective.

Starting to think my new year’s Resolution should be getting off my ass and learning how to use Blender properly

I agree that you’ve got a solid gameplan going.

If I can offer any advice off the top of my head: drawing is observing. I recommend drawing from life, and what I mean by that when we’re talking fluffies, is to grab a stuffed animal that’s similar enough in form to your average fluffy, and draw it.

Time yourself, maybe 10 minutes tops you spend on this each day. Pose it, put some stuff by it and draw that too. It’ll make drawing fluffies from different angles / in different scenarios from your imagination a lot easier in the long run
