Pushing The Sky Away Part 3 (AMDk7)

Push The Sky Away Part 3

The five fluffies decked out in backpacks turn around to face her.
Two of them are blue and purple, though they are the inverse of each other.
Clearly they are related.
The third is bright white with a golden tail and mane…
The fourth is the unusual combo of green and purple with red eyes, if anything they are highly visible in the sky.
They all are.
The last fluffy is the unusual combination of black and red.
So off course she has the attitude to match the edge.
“Hewwo “says one of the twins. “Fwuffy am Memphis an sissy am Belle”
Belle waves at Frosty.
“Dat am Concowd.” Memphis continues, pointing a hoof at the bright white fluffy.
Concord nods in Frosty’s direction
They give off the air of being the oldest of the bunch.
“An appowwo.” Memphis continues.
Appollo is apparently the eyesore.
Än that am Ace,” Memphis concludes with the black and red fluffy, whom is glaring at frosty.
“An ou ?” Belle asks.
“Am Frosty.” she replies happy. “Wha am fingies on back ?”
“Dat am …wockew…wocket packs.” says Concord slowly.
“Dey am awwow fwuffies to fwy”
“Fwy yeth !” Frosty lunges at the only familiar thing she recognizes.
“Fwosty wann fwy.” she says happily.
Ace snorts derisively, but says nothing while she glares at Frosty.
“Fwosty wan wan…wan push the sky away.”
“Ou am dummeh.” says Ace suddenly out of nowhere. “Sky nu can be pushed, ou dummeh ugly fwuwy. Ou too dummet to fwy, ou not even hab wingsies !”
This is true, all the other fluffies are either pegasi or alicorns.
“Fwosty nu am dummeh, ou am dummeh fwosty am gon fwy ! Fwosty am gon be da bestest fwyew ebah !”
Aces snorts, as if she wants to say that Frosty is looking at the current best flyer ever and she isn’t going to move aside for a newbie dummy that doesn’t even have wingsies.

Before Frosty can reply however, a voice cuts through the summer air.
“Ace, get over here it’s time for you to fly.”
Ace turns around and her expression transforms from a snarling brat to a simpering smile.
“Ace am coming daddeh,” she says bounding forward to her owner Rod Greenshaw, kicking a clod of earth out behind her, hitting Frosty right in the face and chest.
“Owwies !”
Frosty shakes her head and rubs the mud and dirt from eyes, before she looks in Ace’s direction
Mr Greenshaw is kneeling next to her and fiddles with something on the back pack.
The wings unfold, the rockets ignites and Ace takes to the sky.
Frosty’s anger melts away as she gawks at Ace, who flies effortlessly, contemptuous of gravity.
Climbing higher, higher and higher. Looking more like she is dancing in the sky.
Dancing on the golden sunlight.
Frosty hates to admit it, but Ace really is good
And more than anything, she wants to be up there high in the sky.
Up there where she belongs.
This lighting.
This flying madness.

Robin and Mr Deerborne look up as Ace takes off.
“Yeah its some sight to see isn’t it ?” booms Angus Deerborne.
Mr Deerbopre and Robin have been discussing the finer details about signing up to the society and teaching fluffies how to fly. Which is no mean task, but now they are down to brass tacks.
The actual rocket packs fluffies use, to take to the sky.
There are several rocket packs lying on the work bench, they have been standing next to, while talking.
“Alright then,” says Mr Deerborne. “Our top of the line pack is the Silverbolt.”
He holds up an intricate pack with three rocket thrusters and steel foldable wings, with moly alloy canvas wings.
“It’s about 4000 dollars.”
Robin nearly has a stroke there and then.
“Then we have the Spitfire.”
A second pack, only with two rocket thrusters this time and steel bat wings, that are hinged in the middle.
“This one goes for 3500 dollars.”
And this goes on for a while, none of the packs retail for under 2500 dollars.
“These are our pre build packs, we also have them in kit form,” says Mr Deerborne with a twinkle in his eye. For either the hobbyist or the small purse.”
“What’s the cheapest ?” Robin quickly asks.
“That would be this one,” says Mr Deerborne, holding up a pack with a single rocket and rigid wings.
“The Wilbur, we sell it for 1399 in kitform.”
Robin breathes in sharply, that’s still almost half his savings, but he is in too deep now to pull out.
“The kits come with 6 weeks free flying lessons too,” Mr Deerborne nudges.
“Mr Deeborne sir,” says Robin “I think we have an agreeable deal.”
He holds his hand out, which Mr Deerborne shakes with a broad grin.
“Let’s go back inside,” says Mr Deerborne. “And get things sorted. However before we do that I got to warn you, we The Flying Fluffy Society wil not be held liable for any injuries, damages, or immolation of yourself, your fluffy or your house.
This is waiver, you will have to sign, I’m sure you understand why.”
“That’s fine,” says Robin “I don’t expect things to go so spectacularly wrong.”

The next few weeks are a busy, busy time.
Frosty can barely contain her excitement, at being able to fly.
In between his normal work, Robin also spends his free time putting the rocket pack together, the biggest model kit he has ever build.
The most dangerous too.
It runs on a explosive mixture of hydrogen and blau gas,. The same used in the air ships, that fly over and rattle the crockery in the cabinets.
One wrong move and it will put his entire apartment and everything in it, on the surface of the moon.
No wonder Mr Deerborne wanted him to sign a waiver.
And when he is not doing that, Robin and Frosty are out on the field being taught how to operate the pack and how to fly.
The other fluffies especially Memphis, Concord and Belle have taken Frosty under their wing and are teaching her everything they know about flying.
Which is surprisingly an awfull lot.
She also meets other fluffies there such as Ripcord, Slingshot, Skydive, Slipstream, and Long Range who manages to fly the longest of all the fluffies.
Frosty prefers to stay with the fluffies she knows best though.

It has been decided that The Flying Fluffy Society will hold an flying exhibition 3 months from now, during the fall faire that’s held every year in Jackson Square.
This gives both Robin and Frosty enough time to get to grips with the finer nuances of flying.
Or indeed, flying at all.
Frosty is enthusiastic with a can do, never die attitude, but she isn’t actually all that good at flying.
At best she manages to lift off about 6 inches off the ground, before things go haywire and she face plants in the soil.
Much to Ace’s disgust, who remains haughty towards her, unlike the other fluffies who either encourage her or try to help her.
Robin has taken the rocket pack apart several time apart with the help of Mr Deerborne, Mr Greenshaw and the other members.
And there is nothing wrong with it.
It’s squeaky clean and put together to spec.
Everything from the tiniest valve to the biggest lug nuts have been checked and re checked.
Whatever the problem is, lies with Frosty.
And she is very much aware of this, but the desire to fly burns in her soul, it beats in her chest.
She will fly.
She shall fly, even if it’s the last thing she will ever do.

Unlike parts 1 and 2 part 3 has not a single damn cameo.
Imagine that.
Special thanks to @PeppermintParchment for their time and invaluable advice though.
@TraumatizedPoopie i decided to upload the entire story today.

I wouldn’t say invaluable advice, but you’re welcome! This is probably my favorite part, since we really get to see Frosty’s personality here.

I disagree there ;p
You managed not to get bored with me as I kept droning on for a week about this thing.

I loved the story and how flying for fluffies is a reality here but damn! Got dragged back into reality quite fast with the prices… dreaming sure is expensive.

Yeah, isnt that always the way it is ?
At least dreaming here is within reach for most people and if they are able to save up.
…and you know got fluffies that want to fly.

Those prices! I hope Frosting can find her footing as a flying fluffy though. No matter the cost.

Pursuing your fluffy’s dreams are expensive.

Honestly I kinda forgot her name is Frosting.
I got used to calling her Frosty.

True. That’s okay. That means you really got into the head of the character, which adds to the story in my opinion.

After this one I’ll be going back to Rambo.
Got a few ideas for him.

damn fluffies living better lives than many of us xd but oh well, the world is unfair by nature and dreams are dreams I guess :3

That’s foreshadowing if I’ve ever seen it. I loved the names of the fluffies and the jetpacks. A great nod to aviation history.

I also put some foreshadowing in part 1 near the moesius stand where I reveal that Robin tried to make a chilled stopper that actually got really really hot.
Suggesting that his engineering skills are not quite on the up and up.

Credit for those goes to @PeppermintParchment she suggested most of those, and I rolled with them.

Yeah but only a few fluffies are that lucky.
Most fluffies are even worse off.

Balance is everything

Especially when flying.

( yes i had too)
