Why did the foal squirm in his hand, was it trying to run away or fight back or was it just spasming out of fear? I ask this question a lot because I have a hard time figuring out if they even have self preservation instincts to begin with unless there is text explicitly stating that they are struggling, considering the fact that fluffy ponies have the IQ of a door knob.

Chirpies seem to freak out if anyone besides mom picks them up. Might be because they can’t see? And mares usually tell people chirpies are too young for uppies. So just a chirpy reaction, I’d guess.

I wouldn’t think about these things too hard. At the end of the day fluffies don’t exist to survive in the real world they exist to be abused. the foal squirms because i want to make his feelings of fear and distress more palpable. Realism can augment that in some cases but in this case it’s better to focus on making them cry harder for our enjoyment
