Question for commission artists

So I am having plenty of difficulty with money lately, and I frequently think about doing commissions, even though my fluffy drawings aren’t fully polished. But they had a good feedback in the gallery, so I guess I could draw them for money. But I would like to ask other artists… Is there a decent demand for it? I wouldn’t charge much, since they would mostly be simply drawn and colored with Copics, though I could try to make some digitally in Krita. I wouldn’t mind drawing any kind of box, including controversial. Also, I wonder which kind of box has the most requests… Abuse? Hugbox?

I have a lot of trouble drawing without having a clear prompt first. So maybe illustrating stories would also be a good one.

I say you should go for it. Your fluffies are very cute and round! People would like them! I don’t know exactly how much demand there is, but even if there isn’t a ton of it, having the option doesn’t hurt and you see people post commissions on here fairly often so it clearly exists.

As for which box gets the most commissions - that’ll depend on what you draw, I think! A lot of artists get abuse comms, but I get near-exclusively cute and hugbox stuff. I never limited myself to hugbox, it’s just what people want from me. There’s also people who commission someone to illustrate their story, so comic commissions are a thing!

That’s because your fluffies are Type II diabetes-causing levels of cute and nice; asking you to draw abusebox is like masturbating in front of the family pet or watching porn on a Nintendo device. It’s just feels wrong on a fundamental level.

Nekuchan occasionally draws abusebox and every time I see it, I feel it stabbing into my very soul; please can you be our one last unsullied bastion of hugbox?

Just to be crystal clear:

Nobody here has furry money. Not to suck my own dick but I’m kind of amazing and I’ve made maybe $300. Total. In a year. And half of that was around the charity event last winter, so inorganic traffic.

I am thankful for every offer of work I’ve had and I’m bummed for every piece I’ve had to turn down, but as long as you’ve got clear expectations and can produce at a reliable quality and pace, would love to see you thrive.

Tips:

  1. communication! We’re a pack of autistic squirrels and unclear expectations give both parties anxiety.
  2. mind how much time you spend so you’re not slaving hours for $10.
  3. Boundaries. Be clear about what is and isn’t acceptable behavior. If possible, keep all the communication on the site. If anyone is being creepy or makes you uncomfortable, totally tell a mod here. We abuse fluffies, not each other.

Awww. I do draw gory stuff sometimes, but don’t worry, that is and remains a rarity! (And may be different from proper abuse since I don’t generally involve humans in it.) I just wanna do silly things with the silly horse toddlers.

Not enough for a reliable income, no. Especially since a lot of more established artists here charge next to nothing or literally nothing for fluffy art.

I think @AmbitiousLeather8309 pretty much covered it. This is the type of community where you play for the love of the game, we’re going nowhere fast, and the funding has been in the red since 1992.
