I recall a short comic with a very similar concept (but the fluffies were in sealed bags) - the idea in that is they were used to produce the same compounds found in Horseshoe crab blood (very powerful antibacterial agent) on a scale that the crab population could never support.
I’d assume anything like this would be for some similar bio-chemical production.

Maybe fluffies were originally created for some industrial purpose such that their dung, urine or other waste products is highly prized - but only if they’re fed right.

Stallion amputees may be milked of their semen for breeding, or for another commodity like crap (fertiliser), farts (methane), or meat (cut the balls off to improve the taste of the meat of course).

I like this idea. In my headcanon you’d have to keep them sedated or else the suffering would make the meat sour, but in principle this could be great for saving space.
