“EEEEEEEHEEHEEHEEHAAHAHAHAHAA!!! NUU EAT WAINBOW MUNSTAH DAADAAHAHAHAHAA!! EEHEEHEHEHEEE!!”
Jitters chuckled as he lightly nibbled at Rainbow Bright’s sides, pretending to ‘eat’ him. The foal squeals in laughter and squirms in his hands, his tiny hooves booping at his nose in feeble attempts to push his face away and cease the onslaught of tickles to his adorably soft tummy.
He never really understood why most, if not all, parents pretended to eat their children. Maybe this was why. Causing laughter, getting to laugh. It was just fun. Simple fun.
“PWEEHEEHEEHEESE DADDAAHAHAHA!! NEE’ TU GU PEEPEEHEEHEEHEES!!!” The foal squeals.
Jitters relents, allowing Rainbow to catch his breath as he swiftly lowers him to the litterbox. Without a moment too soon, Rainbow begins doing his business in the fine, sandy litter.
“So, do you understand now?” Jitters asks. “How the scary video was just like playing pretend?”
“Mmm… Am thinky-so…” Rainbow hums thoughtfully, continuing to empty his bladder. “Munstahs nu am weaw? Am just pway pwetendies?”
Jitters hums with a smile, finally having progress in the little alicorn learning the difference between real and pretend after his terrifying encounter with the horror ARG video the foal had accidentally seen a few days ago. He takes the opportunity to try and formulate a complicated question into a simple answer befitting the intelligence of a small child. “Well… That monster’s not real. Doesn’t mean others aren’t, but that’s not always a bad thing. Sometimes there a good monsters too.”
Rainbow pauses his attempts to bury the damp patch of litter to look at Jitters in confusion. “Guud munstahs?”
“That’s right. Just because a monster looks scary, doesn’t always mean they’re mean or bad. Some good monsters even scare off the bad ones.”
Rainbow looks unsure of this logic, and finishes burying his good peepees with an uncertain hum. After wiping his hoofpads clean on the mat he trots across his pen to receive a gentle petting through the colourful tufts that made up his mane. “Daddeh wub guud munstahs?”
“I love all monsters! Real monsters, pretend monsters, even the mean, scary ones.”
Rainbow frowns, looking up at him with confusion. “Wai?”
Jitter gives a thoughtful shrug. “I dunno, I just think they’re neat. They’re scary, but fun too.”
“Scawy? An’ fun??” The foal asks, trying to comprehend how anything scary could possibly be fun too. Shaking his little head, Rainbow huffs. “Dat am… Vewy… Con-Con-uh-…Con-foosing…”
Jitters chuckles in amusement. “Yeah, it sure is.” The pleasant learning moment is interrupted by the ringing alarm from his phone. “Come on, it’s about time we head on out.”
“Whewe we going, Daddeh?” Rainbow asks as he’s scooped up.
“We’re going to go meet some new fluffies~”
You are Rainbow Bright, and Daddeh has carried you out of your housie for the very first time. You were excited! You were also nervous. The outside was bigger than you could ever have imagined! It was actually pretty overstimulating. There were so many bright colours and noises and things moving around! There were even loudy, vroomy sounding monsters running by! Daddeh didn’t seemed worried about them at all though, and helped calm you down by hiding you in his hands and letting you cover your eyes.
It isn’t until you’re brought into a bright place away from the noise of the vroomy monsters and the countless other humans that you poke your head up to look around. It smells strange, and there’s a pretty human wearing pink not-fluff standing behind a small wall.
“Hi, is James here?” Daddeh asks.
“Oh! Sorry, he and and Scout aren’t in today.” The pretty lady answered.
“Oh… W-Well, uh, he recommended this daycare if I needed a quick babysitter? Do you take walk-ins?”
“Yeah, we do. Let’s see…” The pretty lady says as she moves some paper around behind her desk wall thingie. “Name please?”
“Oh, uh, Jack Ryan.” Daddeh answers. “And this is Rainbow Bright.”
“Okidokie, Just sign this form. Entry fee is $50.”
You watch as Daddeh signs the paper and digs in his wallet to give her the smaller green papers with faces from inside.
“Alrighty, you can just hand him over and we’ll take him over to the alicorn pen to make some new friends!” The pretty lady says. You have no idea what an ‘alicorn pen’ is, but you’re excited that you and Daddeh are gonna see it!
“Alright, Rainbow, I’m gonna be back shortly. You go make some new friends and have fun.” Daddeh says, holding you out to the pretty lady.
“W-wait… Whu? Daddeh nu comin’??” You ask, your excitement diminishing as the realization that you’re being left alone here dawns on you.
“Sorry, kiddo, I’ve gotta go to class to take a big test, remember? It’s super important and I can’t watch you or leave you home alone, so Miss Annie here,” he gestures to the pretty lady, “is gonna take good care of you 'til I come back.”
You don’t have time to react before you suddenly find yourself in Miss Annie’s hands. “W-Wait-”
“Closing time is 4:30 P.M.” Miss Annie says. Daddeh nods and thanks her before checking his phone and quickly rushing out with a wave goodbye.
“I’ll be back to pick you up!”
“Wait! Nu!! Nu gu!!!” You squeak, all your previous excitement gone as your one safety anchor disappears out the doors as Miss Annie carries you deeper into the building. Passing through a doorway, you’re suddenly surrounded by a bunch of squeaky voices and noises of playtime, fighting, and cooing. You don’t know what to make of it. You’re honestly terrified.
A phone from the front desk rings and Miss Annie groans. “Hey, Hey, Rob, can you please take care of this foal for me? I’ve gotta take a call.”
The man named Rob is carrying a big, heavy looking bag and looks unhappy to see you and Miss Annie.
“Fuckin’ seriously? I’m busy-”
“Hey! Language!” Miss Annie scolds, shoving you into Mr. Rob’s hand without waiting for him to put the bag down and rushing away, back to the room with the ringing phone. You look up at Rob with tearful eyes, scared and unsure.
“Ugh, fuckin’ Mary Sue designer. That fucker probably spent his life savings on a worthless piece of trash like you. Probably to impress that stupid bitch he hangs out with… Bet you’re a spoiled fuckin’ Hellgremlin in the making too…”
“W-Whu?” You didn’t understand anything the scary man just said, but you understood it was mean with meanie words. He looks at you with a disgusted sneer before rolling his eyes and dropping you in the nearest pen on a tall table.
“Good luck, Shit rat…”
You fall a long way down, not really getting a chance to look at your new surroundings before landing roughly on the soft, foamy floor of the pen with an ‘Oof!’ Your wingies were sore, but other than that you think you were okay. Before you know it, Mr. Rob has walked away, leaving you all alone in this new place.
“Huuu… Pwease! Nu weave! Nee’ Daddeh! Wan Daddeh back, pwease!! Huuhuuu…” You cry, scrambling your little hooves at the wall and flapping your wings, trying to get out. You wanted Daddeh back! You didn’t want to be left alone here!
You cry and beg for help, hoping that Miss Annie might hear you or that your Daddeh would return to save you.
“Hewwo? Nyu Fwen?” A new voice asks. “Nu be saddies, am Wed! Wan pway?”
You slowly turn around to face it, seeing another creature you have never met before. At least, you’d never seen on in person. He was a bigger red fluffy with an orange mane and a pointy thing on his head.
“O-Oh… H-Hewwo…” You shyly greet him, unsure of what to say. He seems friendly enough with his big smile and cheerful offer.
“A-Am Wainbo-”
“Munstah…” He suddenly says, interrupting you. His eyes growing wide as his smile disappears.
“W-Whu?”
“MUNSTAH!!!” He screams louder, causing the rest of the fluffies in the pen to stop their playing to look in your direction. Red looks terrified, which terrifies you! You look around searching for the monster, where was it?! Was it a bad monster?!
“MUNSTAH!!” He screams pointing in your direction. Was it right behind you?! Before you know it, the others are screaming too. You cry, kick started by fear and begin running. Trying to desperately escape the monster that must be chasing you. Everyone’s terrified faces spur you further, scrambling this way and that, leaving a horrible trail of scaredy poopies behind. “HEWP! HEWP! MUNSTAH!!”
Everyone starts scrambling away, the smell of scaredy poopies fills the air. Some fluffies began kicking each other frantically when they got tangled up trying to flee. Screams of horror rang out. It was all you could do to keep from accidentally running into anyone as they screeched in your face and tried to run away.
You scurry over to the nearest thing that looked like a hiding place. A pink castle with a red slide. You bolt inside, covering your face with your hooves and crying, hoping beyond hope that the monster that the others saw doesn’t eat you or the others. You listen to the others screech their fears and cry for their mummahs and daddehs to help them.
“H-Hewwo?” A voice that was as delicate as the chime of a bell calls, hooves slowly tip-tapping down the plastic ramp that lead to the top of the castle. You peek up to see a beautiful, pink filly with eyes that reminded you of Daddeh. Only instead of green and black, hers were red and blue.
“A-Am the munstah g-gone?” You ask her. She pauses only to smile and giggle.
“Nu. Am safe hewe tho.” She assures. She finishes her descent to stand close by you and get a better look. “Am Cwawabeww. Wha’ 'ou namsie?”
“W-Wainbow Bwight…”
“Oooh~ Dat am pwetty namesie. Matchies 'ou pwetty fwuff!”
“Th-thank yu…” You feel your cheeks blush as you slowly lift your head up. She smiles at you sweetly and you can’t help but feel your heart swell with butterflies. “A-Am Cwawabeww nu scawdies of the munstah?”
Clarabell beams and shakes her head. “Nu, Cwawabeww see munstahs befowe. Nu am scawdies.”
“Wow…Cwawabeww am suuu bwave!” You couldn’t help but look at this beautiful filly with awe. You wish you could be more brave like her. Maybe you should be! Maybe you should go out there and face down the monster, and save all those other poor fluffies that were still crying and screaming in fear!
Clarabell snorts and giggles, her laugh sounding as beautiful as a bird song. “Nu nee’ tu be scawdies when Wainbow Munstah am dummeh cwybabbeh~”
Wait. What?
“Wait-Wainbow nu knu?” She laughs harder, making you feel so confused and nervous. “Wook in da miwwow, siwwy dummeh!”
She points besides you before shoving you to make you turn and stumble towards the reflective surface. There, in what you thought was a bigger side of the room, was a fluffy that looked just like you.
Only this fluffy was the most terrifying looking fluffy you had ever seen.
“M-M-Mun…Mun-Muns-” You stammer, your eyes taking in the visage of the scared monster on the other side of the glass.
“See? Wainbow am scawdie babbeh munstah!” Clarabell chortles as you shakily reach up to touch the horn on your head. Your breath shakes as you actually feel it there, cementing the fact that the fluffy you were staring at, is indeed you. But it couldn’t be you. You weren’t a monster! But you were. The world feel sideways. Your little heart hammers in your chest as it all starts to sink in. The screams, the way the others were looking at you. They weren’t scared of a monster chasing you. They were scared of you.
You feel tears well up in your eyes as you struggle to process this whole new revelation, not noticing Clarabell rear back her hooves before slamming them hard into your face. The force of her buck send you to the ground, reeling from the pain blooming through your eye and cheek.
“OWWIE!! W-Wai fwen huwt Wainbow?!” You cry, watching as she trots towards the entrance of the castle. She glances back at you with a disgusted scoff.
“IN HEWE! MUNSTAH AM IN CASTWE! HEWP! HEWP! SABE CWAWABEWW!” She screams at the top of her lungs. You dizzily lift yourself to your hooves as you hear several hoofsteps rush towards the castle entrance.
“MUNSTAH! MUNSTAH!” “NU HUWT CWAWABEWW!” “SABE FWEN!” Shouted several voices. Before you knew it, Red had charged inside to glare at you with an angry snort. “WEAVE CWAWABEWW AWONE, MUNSTAH!”
You didn’t understand. You didn’t do anything wrong! You weren’t a monster! Well, you were but you weren’t bad! You stammer your words, trying to explain, but Red doesn’t give you the chance. His hoof connects with your muzzle, and the force of the hit makes lights dance in front of your eyes.
“P-Pwease- N-nu du anythin’ wong!” You cry, trying to plea with Red to understand. You feel your nose leaking. And you struggle when several mouths bite at your scruff and kick at your sides to drag and push you out of what you had thought was a safe hiding place.
“GET HIM!” “GET DA MUNSTAH!” “GET DA MEANIE MUNSTAH!”
“Nu! Stop! Pwease!! N-nu am m-meanie!” You scream as you’re forcefully shoved and dragged out of the castle. Your hooves flail to fight them off, but your strength was nothing compared to the much bigger foals around you.
“Munstah nu num fwuffies!” Red shouts to the riled cheers and jeers of the foals around him. “Fwuffies make big hewd an’ beat da munstah!!”
“Pw-Pwease! Nu am mun-” You’re cut off by a pair of hooves colliding with your gut. Before you can even cough or take a breath, the swarm had descended upon you. Hurties came from everywhere. Hooves and teeth stomped and bit, tearing out feathers and fluff as you screamed and kicked. You tried to scream for mercy over and over, but no one with let you get a word in before they tore into you.
“GIB WOSTEST HUWTIES!” “MUNSTAH AM FO FOWEBA SWEEPIES!” “TAKE SOWWY POOPIES!”
You momentarily spot Clarabell sitting amongst the jeering crowd. The filly you had thought was your friend smiled smugly at your plight. The look on her face was nothing short of sadistic satisfaction. You couldn’t understand why. Why would she do such a thing?
“Cwybabbeh munstah~ Cwybabbeh Munstah~ Cwybabbeh Munstah~” She sings tauntingly. The other foals join in on her taunting chant. Soon the whole lot of them are chanting along. They all hate you. You’re a cry babbeh. You’re a monster.
The heart hurties from her betrayal hurt just as bad as all the hurties the rest of the foals were giving you.
You feel your wing pop. Another hoof to your cheek makes some of your brand new baby teeth come out of your mouth. You taste metal. You see your fluff and feathers being scattered on the floor with droplets of red all around them. You can’t see out of your left eye anymore. Everything hurts so much.
Please. Stop. Please. Don’t hurt me. Stop hurting me. I did nothing wrong. Please. Stop. STOP.
PLEASE! STOP!
“STOP!”
You’re not sure what happened, but everything became blindingly bright. The hurties stop coming for just a moment. You hear everyone scream and cry about their ‘see places’. You hear someone shout.
“WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!”
Jitters rushed to the daycare as fast as he could. He was hoping to spend a little time after the test to do some short notice tutoring, but one dreadful phone call later had him dropping everything and hopping on the nearest bus.
Slamming through the front door of the daycare, He looked around frantically before seeing a distressed Annie standing behind the desk, a towel bundled in her arms.
“Sir, I-”
“What happened?! Where-Oh my god-” He balks at the sight before him.
In the towel, Rainbow lies, beaten and bloody. The foal coughs, cringing hard from the pain. His little teary eye wanders up to him, bleary and unfocused. “D-Daa…ddeh…”
Jitters feels his heart sink into his gut. All that work. All two and a half months of careful trial and error of learning how to take care of this tiny life is all but gone. All the memories of cleaning up after this foal, seeing him open his eyes, hearing him speak, watching him learn colours and numbers, playing with him… It all flashes before his eyes as his breath shudders at the sight of Rainbow’s broken little body.
His hands tremble as he reaches for Rainbow. “W-What-What happened…?”
“I-I’m so sorry sir, there was a mistake and he was put in a regular foal pen-” Annie starts to explain, interrupted by the arrival of her coworker.
“Hey, Annie, I’m gonna take my break, 'kay?” Rob says as he enters from the primary daycare room, stopping short when he sees Jitters. “Oh…”
Jitters looks at him with a harrowed expression. “Robert…?”
“Hey, too bad about your fluffy, man. Maybe this’ll teach you to focus more on getting my scores higher instead of pandering to your technicolor shit machine, huh?”
Annie gasps in disbelief as Jitters’ eyes narrow at the man. “You did this?”
“So what. Serves you right, expecting me to fill out those damned answers when it’s your job to do the work.”
Jitters stares at Rob hard as the boiling rage simmers in veins. “My job is to help you learn so you can do the work yourself, not carry your ass through college you supercilious moron! Find another tutor. I’m done.”
Rob scoffs, storming towards Jitters in an attempt to intimidate him with size and muscle mass. “You think you can just quit out on me?! Over a fucking Shit rat?! Just fucking buy another one from one of those stupid vending machines! Oh, or is that not good enough for that pedigree bitch you’re simping for?”
“No. I’m quitting because you’re an arrogant piece of shit that refuses to measure up to anything outside of a dick measuring contest. Good fucking luck with finals.” Jitters retorts, turning to take Rainbow from Annie.
Right as his fingertips brush the fabric of the towel, Rob’s fist slams hard into his face. Annie screams in shock and terror at the violence happening before her. Jitters collapses to the ground, reeling from the unexpected punch and clutches his eye.
“FUCK YOU, PISS STAIN! YOU THINK YOU’RE BIG SHIT?! YOU CAN’T EVEN TAKE A HIT! FUCKING GOING DOWN LIKE THE LITTLE BITCH YOU ARE!”
“ROB! GET OUT!” Annie screams, redirecting the angry man’s attention. “Get out right now, before I call the cops!”
Rob glares at her, before glaring back down at Jitters and giving him a swift kick to the side as he storms out of the daycare.
Jitters groans, the muscles of his midsection clenching as they flare with pain. It’s definitely gonna bruise. Annie rushes around to the front of the desk to check on him.
“Sir, Sir, are you okay?!”
Jitters hisses through his teeth as he stands up, nodding. “Yeah, I’ll be fine…” Taking Rainbow into his arms, he carefully carries the foal out and dials Loretta’s number on his phone.
“He’s been through a lot of trauma. Luckily, a lot of it is surface damage. The worst is his upper left leg fracture, the dislocated left wing, four fractured ribs, two broken, the gash from the fluff that was ripped from his left flank, and three missing teeth. The swelling around his eye should clear up within a couple days, and we’ll be able to see the extent of the damage there once it does.” Dr. Atkins explains to Jitters and Loretta, who are currently standing in the examination room, looking down at the foal on the table.
“He’ll make a full recovery?” Jitters asks.
Dr. Atkins nods, though looks unconvinced. “It’s going to take some time. He’ll likely have some residual pain if the wing doesn’t heal properly, but knowing Loretta’s care, he’ll be fine. I suggest going back to the soft oatmeal diet, at least until the dental damage heals.”
“Thank you, Dr. Atkins.” Loretta says, scooping Rainbow into the carrier. After paying for the vet visit at the front desk, she confronts Jitters outside. “You’re going to charge that asshole for assault, right?”
Jitters sighs, looking away. Loretta refuses to take it as an answer.
“You are going to charge that asshole for assault. Your eye is all kinds of fucked, Jitters.”
“I know…”
“I cannot believe how utterly reckless you are! Bringing him to that daycare with no prior socialization-It was beyond stupid-”
“I know…”
“No! No, you don’t know! Because if you did, you would’ve come straight to me! I could’ve taken him in for the day! I could-”
“I didn’t want him anywhere near Lady Bell.”
“Lady Bell isn’t with me any more! I had to send her to Lindsay.”
Jitters pauses to stare at Loretta, his frustration and disbelief clear as day. “And when were you gonna tell me that?!”
Loretta huffs, raising her hand to her forehead to rub her thumb over her temple. “Look, I’m sorry I didn’t call you sooner. Just… Hand him here, I can take him to my place and keep an eye on him while he heals. In the meantime, you can file a report and get your eye checked out…”
“No… I wanna take him home. At least for today…”
“But-”
“Just give me time to help him settle down in a familiar, safe place long enough for me to pack his essentials… I’ll bring him over later tonight…”
“… Okay.”
You are Rainbow Bright. You feel the worstest hurties you have ever felt before. This hurt even worse than the time you had horrible pointy hurties in your mouth. Or the other times you fell over and over when you were learning to make walkies. This was like all of those hurties, but all at the same time all over your body. The pointy hurty medicine the Doctor gave you made the hurties not hurt so bad, but it made you feel really groggy.
You hear Daddeh and Mummah 'Wetta talking, but you can’t focus enough to understand anything they’re saying. You’re too tired to anyway. You think taking a nap is a good idea.
When you wake up, you hear Daddeh moving things around. Looking around with your not hurty eye, you realize you’re in your housie.
“D-Daddeh…?” Your voice croaks when you try to speak. You crawl toward the door of the carrier, despite it making your chest and leggies hurt. “Daddeh…?” You call out a little louder.
You hear Daddeh stop what he’s doing and his footsteps approach.
“Hey, Rainbow… How you feeling?” He asks, opening up the carrier and carefully scooping you out. You notice his eye has a big hurty, just like yours.
“H-Huwties… Am… Am Daddeh otay…?” You ask, more concerned for his well being than yours.
“Yeah, Yeah I’m alright, sweetie.” He smiles, but the smile looks wrong. Like it’s hurt too. “Do you remember what happened?”
You try to think, searching your memory for what you had experienced. “F-fwuffies… Gib huwties…”
“yeah… Yeah, they sure did. You’re gonna be okay though. Me and Mummah 'Retta are gonna take real good care of you, okay?”
You struggle to keep your head up, deciding on resting it on his fingers instead. “…'tay…”
You think back to why the foals attacked you. What they screamed at you. What they sang and taunted as they tore out your feathers and fluff. Your heart aches. “Daddeh…?”
“Yes, Rainbow?”
“St-Stiww… Stiww wuv…?”
“Of course I love you, Rainbow? Why wouldn’t I?” He huffs a chuckle, stroking your raggedy mane with an extra gentle touch.
“… Am munstah…” You shamefully admit as new tears begin to soak the fluff of your cheeks.
“What? No, Rainbow, you’re not a monster. Why would you say that?”
“Am munstah… Hab wingies… An’… An’ pointy pwace…” You squeeze your eye shut, sniffling as you explain how horrible you are to your dear Daddeh.
“So? That doesn’t make you a monster…”
You huff in heartbroken frustration, trying so hard not to cry. He didn’t understand. He just didn’t see how terrifyingly horrible you were. How scary and awful you looked.
“Nu! Am ugwy, cwybabbeh munstah! huuu… Am scawy…” You sob, even though you don’t want to. Even though it hurts so much to take in a deep breath or let it out in those awful, shuddery shakes. “Nu desewve wuv… Jus’ wike fwuffies say…”
“Now hold on! You are not a mons-”
“YUS AM MONSTEW!” You shout, wincing when you do. You think it was the only way to make Daddeh understand. You regret shouting, it hurts so bad. Daddeh looks upset. You regret that too.
“… Well… You’re my monster, and I still love you.” It hurts to hear him call you a monster, at first. You’re more confused that he still loves you. Peering up at him with a watery eye, you find him pull you close for a hug. “Do you remember what I told you about monsters earlier today?”
“…Nu?”
“Just because a monster looks scary, doesn’t always mean they’re mean or bad. I don’t care how scary you think you are. You are a good monster, Rainbow, and I will always love you more than you’ll ever know.”
You can’t keep from crying. You have hurties, but also heart happies. So many that it feels like your chest is gonna burst with a whole bunch of warm, happy colours. Your try to tell Daddeh how much you love him too and how grateful you are that he still loves you, but all the sounds that come out of your mouth is blubbering warbles that make no sense. You hug him as much as you can, even though you feel so sore. Daddeh lets you cry and hugs you back as gently as he can.
You don’t know how long you’ve been crying and hugging, but when you finally calm down, feeling super drained from all that emotional rush, Daddeh holds you away and moves to put you back in your carrier. “Alright, bud, let’s get you back in the carrier… I need to pack some of your things so we can visit Mummah 'Retta.”
“Daddeh…?”
“What’s up, kiddo?”
“Can… Can Rainbow see Bwambwes…? Nee’ tawk tu him…”
Daddeh pauses, looking surprised and confused. After a moment of quietly thinking he brings you to your pen and sets you down. “Sure. Let me get him for you.”
You sit in your pen, thinking long and hard about what you’re gonna say. Before long, Daddeh returns and hesitantly sets the monstrous stuffy friend down in front of you. You steel your nerves, only daring to glance at Brambles. You feel a wave of shame wash over you.
“Can Daddeh gu ‘way fow a widdwe bit? Nee’ tu tawkies in…in p-pwi… in pwivate…”
That one was a big word. You hoped you used it right. Daddeh looks surprised again, but he accepts and walks out of the room. You quietly sit for a moment, trying to work up the courage to speak. Brambles McWambles waits patiently for you to say something.
“H-Hewwo, Bwambwes… Am… Am Wainbow… Yu 'membah?”
Brambles does not reply. You try to not let it get to you. After how awfully you treated him, you wouldn’t be very talkative with you either.
“Wainbow jus’ wan tu say am sowwy… Am sowwy fow make yu feew baddies. Wainbow was wostest fwen… Yu nevah du anythin’ bad tu Wainbow, bu’ Wainbow was scawdies cause yu am munstah… Nevah even thinkies ‘bout how Bwambwes nevah nummed Wainbow, o’ gave nu huwties…Nevah thinkies 'bout how Bwambwes feew… Bwambwes am guud munstah… Wainbow am sowwiest fow be wostest fwen tu Bwambwes… Wainbow nao knu… Dat Wainbow am munstah tuu… Am nu guud munstah… Made fwuffies scawdies, was meanie tu yu…” You sniffle, feeling judgement in the red button eyes of Brambles. You bring yourself to look at him properly, taking in the soft blue fluff of his face and the toothy smile he gives.
“Bu’… Wainbow nu wan be bad munstah… Wan be guud munstah, wike Bwambwes… Wan weawn tu be nicies, and guud, and scawe bad munstahs ‘way su they nu give scawdies o’ huwties tu fwens… Wainbow am sowwy, Bwambwes. Wan be fwens ‘gain. Nu desewve it, bu’… bu’ wan twy…”
You reach your little arms out the best you can and shimmy forward until you’re properly able to hug your monstrous former friend. “Yu am guudest munstah, Bwambwes… An’ guudest fwen… Nu wan yu tu have saddies o’ heawt huwties evah 'gain… Wainbow wuv yu…”
Jitters stood outside the bedroom, silently listening to Rainbow’s chat with the stuffed toy. Never in his life did he ever expect to find that fluffies could have such complex feelings over… Well, anything, really. This whole experience was so damn far beyond him, and he couldn’t help but wonder if it was just something that was unique to Rainbows character or if there were other fluffies that held such a capability to be remorseful and find a need to self-improve.
Rainbow fully acknowledged himself as a monster, but with Jitter’s help had learned that there could be good and bad monsters. With that knowledge, the foal came to the realization that a once loved toy that he’d come to fear was not the malevolent being he’d made himself believe, and to make up for it, decided to take action and make amends for his own mistakes.
The more Rainbow spoke, the more choked up he felt. Most the humans he met didn’t even bring themselves to show even a half the emotional growth this tiny creature did. The maturity it took for the foal to take responsibility of his actions and extend an olive branch to mend the friendship with his stuff toy left Jitters feeling a mix of proud and heartbroken. He found himself wishing that this lesson didn’t have to come about from such a violent experience.
Steadying himself, he continued to finish up with packing Rainbow’s things. He had to share his new findings with Loretta.
