Thank you for sharing your process! It’s very inspiring. Can you recommend an exercise to help get me acclimated to using a tablet? I have barely messed with it because it’s so different from paper, and I don’t remember what I did to learn to draw on paper because I was a kid. That probably sounds dumb, but I have that thing where if I suck at something I need a drill exercise, because repeatedly failing to make a whole picture look good just makes me want to ragequit. But when I see videos like this it makes me want to try again.
There’s not much you can do besides just drawing on the tablet. But! Please take a look at your sensitivity settings, they may be set too rough (you need to press down a lot to get the line). I recommend changing sensitivity to higher one, so you can literally just glide on the surface and get the similar payout like on paper.
Coloring, shading and lighting comes with practice. Search for tutorials and don’t fret if it’s from DeviantArt - there are actually legit nice art tutorials.
If you need an exercise in drawing and on the tablet, then I would say go for: One character turn-around (draw the character seen from the front, side, back, side) Various facial expressions Body poses (no face needed) Drawing only body parts in different poses (like sad eyes, yelling mouth, hands put together ) Drawing scenes with at least two characters (mummah holding bebbeh, two bebbehs playing)
Remember those don’t have to be perfect, those are supposed to be yours. Make mistakes and draw over them. If you need to, erase whole thing and simply start anew. I know the frustration and anger here, I’ve been there and done a loooooot of that. There can be such “hard to crush boulder” moments, but that means you are growing and developing as an artist. You’re getting up at least 5 levels, please, give yourself patience and time to adjust. You will get there
Just like BunBun said! What also helps me get out of art block is asking people for random animals and then trying to make a hybrid out of them, I did that recently and it sprung me right back into action ^^ Here’s the result of combining Moodeng, a lion and a tiger for example lol
Besides, drawing figures is always nice, focusing mostly on proportions and movement in the pose. If you need references, Line of Action is a great website to get tons of that ^^ Also, Proko is a great channel on youtube to get art tutorials, but I’d say it’s a bit more advanced~
