“afford”? Copyright is free, it automatically attaches to original works. The copyright notice isn’t even strictly necessary–copyright doesn’t need to be claimed–though it’s definitely a good idea to avoid any confusion.
You may be thinking of patents (though in the US those are pretty cheap), or trademarks, though that is mostly for corporations.

wait… are you guys saying that copyright is free and i could of been putting copyright marks in my works all this time for no cost to mark my work and to fix any confusion and to insure that everybody knows that my work is made by me and that i have the rights to make shure that no one tries to copy me or my work or my oc:s FOR FREE AT ANY TIME???
