One more for today.
This story is based on a real phenomenon known as natural mummification, which occurs when specific conditions preserve the bodies of animals that have died in isolated, enclosed spaces. While this process is most commonly associated with cave systems around the world, in this case, it occurred inside a Chestnut Oak tree in Georgia. The hollowed trunk of the tree created an environment known as the “Chimney Effect”, where airflow through the tree combined with tannins in the wood and sap to naturally preserve the body of any creature that got stuck inside.
In this case, a fluffy became lodged within the tree while chasing an animal, unable to escape. The fluffy’s body, deprived of moisture due to the airflow, was dehydrated and preserved instead of decomposing as it normally would. Over time, the fluffy’s body became a mummified reminder of its tragic fate.
Years later, local loggers in Georgia discovered the mummified fluffy while cutting down the tree. The preservation was so striking that the fluffy was soon dubbed “Stuckie”, a reference to a similar real-life case of a mummified dog found in a tree. Today, Stuckie serves as an eerie example of how nature can preserve the dead in the most unexpected of places.
