Tater tots artist yellow cotton candy030

That looks delicious!

My headcanon is that as opposed to real animals causing them intense pain before they’re eaten makes fluffies taste even better.

Wait did qwerty report this for being a shitedit of his latest post? Shitedits are allowed…

On a side note, its very impressive that you can make art of this quality so quickly. Took you only a few hours to make this since qwerty’s post.

Shitedits are not allowed without permission from the Original Creator.

Rule 7 in the Site Rules; “Abuse of certain categories of characters is prohibited. This includes youthful anthropomorphic fluffies, other creators’ fluffy or human OCs if done without permission, or non-fluffy animals.”

If a Shitedit is created without permission, but the Original Creator chooses not to flag the content, then this can be seen as permission after the fact but it is up to the original creator if they wish to flag the edit or not.

In this case, yellowcottoncandy030 did not ask for permission to make an Edit and qwertytf chose to flag the Edit based on their work.

Isn’t that rule limited to the characters only and not the environment? The fluffies in both qwerty’s and yellowcottoncandy’s posts are just placeholders and the focus is on the tator tots.

This post was obviously a parody of qwerty’s but am I just not allowed to ever make art of fluffies eating tator tots in the way they both drew it without consulting the original artist?

It is admittedly a greyer area once the colours were changed, but since only the colours were changed it was still deemed close enough to being a parody of qwertytf’s work.

Had yellowcotoncandy not posted the original shitedit and instead started with the different colours then the argument of environments could’ve come into it, potentially inspired by qwertytf’s art without being a direct variant of it.

We still have the problem of whether an artist is entitled to the overarching idea of their post. Artists absolutely should have complete control over their OC, but what about the story that goes along with them.

It’s difficult to cede the rights to an idea solely due to a 1-page post that an artist made. It’s much easier to give full control of an idea/story when dealing with multi-page comics. For example, the story that RQ told of Marble is complex enough that the story is hard to take inspiration from without being a carbon copy, and is thus its own unique story that people can refer to by name over description.

But for posts that didn’t have the same amount of thought put into them as full comics, a 1-page post of an idea is small enough that attempts to “copyright” the idea seem predatory. In my eyes, it’s like trying to copyright words and catchphrases, and can limit creative output of the community.

Again the issue isn’t that yellowcottoncandy posted art about a Fluffy eating a tater tot, it was that they posted a shitedit of qwerytf’s work, then posted the same shitedit with a new coat of paint.

Inspiration is fine, and parody is ok so long as permission is granted. But the deciding factor in this case was that the new parody was posted so close to the original parody that it was still under the umbrella of an unsanctioned shitedit.

Honestly there’s no ‘one size fits all’ rule regarding this and there is arguments on both sides about why the amended parody should and shouldn’t be allowed. In the end it’ll come down to personal decision and as the mod who made that decision I felt it just crossed the line, again due to how close it was to the original shitedit.

At first I thought there might’ve been someone going around commissioning pictures of tater tots and I had a good idea who
