“Zebwa?”

"Hmm? Oh Muscawi! Zebwa wad jus lookin fow ou. Cum. Zebwa wan tu gu on anodew patwol. Nee da extwa nummies, we hab many soon mummahs an wintew comin. “

“W-wuh? Wait! Zebwa, Muscawi wan tawk”

“Tawk waitew! Cum, nao!”

Rose’s eyes followed the little grey and blue figures until they went up and over the hill.
She hardly realised the stallion had got off her, happily bumbling about good feels.
Sniffling, she got up from the ground, and hoped the stallion had failed to impregnate her, but she knew- she already knew that within her life was forming again.

She’d rather it not form at all, if it’d just be taken away from her.

Curly mane brown with filth, she decided to retreat into a more secluded area, where stallions wouldn’t bother her. She ended up trekking up the hill where she used to sleep, back when she was a filly, when life was simpler…

“HEY! WAI DUMMEH ENFIE MAWE ON SMAWTY’S HIWW?”

Rose jumped in surprise. She didn’t expect another mare to be here. Lowering her head, she mumbled and apology.

“Sowwy, nu meet tu bovew ou…”

Sandy sniffed, snapping,

"Weww, dun jus stand dew, gu 'way!”

The unicorn nodded, but then hesitated: Sandy seemed to be visibly uncomfortable, sweating and panting.

“Awe… awe ou okai?”

“GU 'WAY! GU…GGHHH BIGGES POOPIES!”

Rose rushed to the pegasus’ side, against the dam’s orders, nervously soothing her…

“Dun wowwy, ou speshaw fwen Id comin…”

Sandy could only heave and pant in response, wailing as her first foal slid out of her.

A colt. wet and wriggly, Rose helped nudge it towards its mother’s teats.

No sooner than she did this, Sandy trembled once more, and another foal emerged.

This time it was a filly. She again helped it to its mother.

Lastly, another colt plopped out and was helped in similar fashion to the first two.
“Nu taste pwetty…”

Curiosity got the better of Rose, and she watched as the amniotic fluid was cleaned from the foals’ thin fur.

The first colt was a unicorn, judging by the nub on its head.

It’s colour, well…

With its coat now cleaned, Rose could clearly see the beautiful vibrant gold, that seemed to shimmer when the light caught it right.

The filly was a rich ruby red, but when the light hit her coat it sparkled, adding a crystalline sheen to it

Shimmer foals.

Sandy seemed elated to have such beautiful children, her tail wiggling with glee.

“Babbehs am su pwetty! Wuv pwetty babbehs, su shinee!”

“Ou fowgot wun…”

Rose indicated to the other colt.

Compared to his siblings, he was dreadfully drab: a brown the colour of dark tree bark and no horn or wings

Still, a small pang of jealousy struck Rose’s heart, but it was quickly replaced with excitement.

Maybe now that she’d helped the smarty’s special friend give birth Zebra would finally allow her children of her own.

Her wishful thinking stopped abruptly, seeing Sandy’s face of elation immediately twist into one of disgust, even anger.

“Poopie babbeh! Ugwy babbeh stowe miwkies fwom gud, shinee babbehs!”

With clear disdain, she flicked the little foal away from her with such force the colt sailed a small height up into the air, then hit the ground with a small crack.

“WAI OU DU DAT TU GUD BABBEH?!”

Sandy snarled, opening her mouth to defend her actions, but suddenly she stopped, and started wailing profusely.

“NUUUU! DUN HUWT SANDY! WAI HUWT SANDY’S WIDDEW BABBEH?! HEWP!”

Doubling back in confusion, Rose scooped up the injured foal who was mewling in distress.

She was scared.

She knew Sandy was up to something: and sure enough she was.

With a horrible sinking feeling, Rose turned around:

“WUH OU DOIN TU SPESHAW FWEN?!”

Zebra was coming

And

He

Was

MAD.

Sorry for the inactivity! I was getting an internal error, but I’ve figured out how to bypass it. While that was going on, I finished the entirety of The Good Herd Volume 1, expect frequent uploads (2-3 a week?) while I work on Volume 2 :).
