What hunters used breed of dog to hunt Fluffy during The Hunt?
I think they used Doberman.
What hunters used breed of dog to hunt Fluffy during The Hunt?
I think they used Doberman.
The strongest fluffy could be chased down and obliterated by an arthritic blind chihuahua without any teeth
Chihuahuas. Not for practical reasons, just to add insult to injury.
Golden Retrievers are bird dogs and they’d act playful which would disarm the fluffy’s sense of fear for “barky munstahs”
Are you referring to a specific hunt by capitalizing it?
Either way every spaniel I’ve had or known would love hunting fluffies. If they tried to hide they would easily flush them out and have the fucking time of their lives
Like Fluffies getting hunted
I have this video of my sister’s spaniel trying to “flush” her cat out of her little soft cat house thing by just barking at her and kind of stomping her paws on the ground near the entrance. The cat is only bothered enough to make a few half hearted swipes to tell the dog to fuck off. We like to imagine the dog is saying “No cats in the hole! Mom said so!”
Oh really?
It’s apparently an instinct that many spaniels have, at least the breed my sister owns. They were used for hunting things like foxes and other critters that would hide in their dug burrows. Besides that my spaniel growing up which seemed to be a mix but was probably mostly English Cocker loved birds in particular
Do you know anything about dogs or are you just picking breeds at random?
Dobermans are guard and security dogs, not hunting dogs. They’d only be useful if your fluffies are miniature horse foal or German Shepherd size.
If your fluffies are the size of a small dog, then it depends on how you’re hunting fluffies:
There’s overlap between the different roles, but it should be remember that humans have vastly specialised dog breeds for specific purposes, so those breeds are more likely to perform well at their intended purpose.
Maybe they thought a Doberman fucking up a fluffy would be funny because it would be
Personally I’d think a terrier breed would be funnier - they’d grab hold of foals then shake their heads back and forth to break the neck, just like they do with rats.
The foals would be scree’ing throughout the whole process until their neck broke.
A big dog would just clamp down on the fluffy’s neck, until either the fluffy choked to death, it bled out or the neck breaks. I don’t think they go too much for the shake approach since adult fluffies are a bit big for it, and foals are single bite-sized to a large dog.
bloodhound or corgi. lot of feral stories include underground dens and I don’t think dachshunds are up to the task anymore
Why? Dachshunds are still used for hunting. They absolutely have the temperament and ability to fuck with foxes and badgers, a fluffy would be nothing to one
They are? My understanding was dachshunds are almost pug-level of inefficient and cruel. People liked the short hotdog shape too much so they’re just little guys with spine problems who can’t do their original purpose anymore
lot of em with bad spine and hip problems due to popularity and obsession with breed purity
Most dachshunds still have the temperament and prey drive even if they’re the poorly bred ones with too short legs, too deep chests, and too long backs. I’m sure that there’s still breeders that specialize in work capable dachshunds, focusing on their working qualities over the show standard, but they’re probably based in Europe.
Basically any beagle, harrier, or foxhound will be more than happy to track down feral fluffies, technically they aren’t supposed to kill their quarry and just locate and hold at bay, but a prey drive is a prey drive.
Sight hounds and mixes like Lurchers might have their speed wasted on a fluffy but they’ll happily do the job.
Honestly if you just want pure dog on fluffy carnage any true ratting/baiting terrier or mix will do. Rat Terrier, Russel/Parson Terrier, Border Terrier, Patterdale Terrier, Miniature Schnauzer, Scottish Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier etc. Basically anything you wouldn’t trust around a cat or rabbit or squirrel.
Big breeds while more intimidating and impressive for us to imagine weren’t bred for small game and really aren’t suited for the job. Could they do it? Technically yes, but they wouldn’t be as good as a smaller more specialized dog.

My top five “best suited to killing the shit out of Fluffies” dog breeds (and mixes of) would in no particular order be:
-Scottish Terrier. Very very game little fuckers. Fast and snippy and very very good at killing things their size and smaller.
-Jack Russel/Parson Terrier. Pretty much the same reasons as above but on crack. These dogs would be living their best lives as fluffy exterminators.
Yorkshire Terrier: Technically classified as a toy breed but the vast majority have just as much vitriol in their blood as any classic terrier. They are willing to fight anything; other dogs, cats, bears, mommy’s slippers, god, and they might even win. Fluffies stand no chance.
-Staffordshire Bull Terrier/American Pit Bull Terrier. Not to feed into any breed stereotypes but they have origins in bull and bear baiting blood sports before being channeled towards dog fighting. In the south they’re pretty popular in wild boar hunts as catch dogs. Fluffies wouldn’t stand a chance. Probably some of the most game dogs out there and while on the slightly larger side than the others I could see fluffy hunting being a great outlet for individuals with high prey drives.
-Greyhounds/Whippets. Again their speed might be wasted on a fluffy but the prey drive is real. If you have any runners these dogs will catch them. Greyhounds might be too big but also maybe not.
This is a great response- I 100% agree with all these choices for specific dog breeds for making fluffies have a real bad time. Though I think we can agree as long as a dog hasn’t been specifically trained to be fluffy friendly or has any moderate health issues, it could handle a 1v1 with even the toughest tuffie.
I would only add that the terrain would be a factor in the choice of what dogs to bring to a fluffy hunt. If it is known that fluffies are in underground burrows or confined spaces, the smaller dog breeds would almost be a requirement in order to deal with the herd. But if they are a larger herd just in the forest or wherever, several fluffies could potentially gang up on the smaller dogs, so you would want to have a couple larger dogs to make sure the fluffies don’t manage to hold off your hounds long enough for a few breeding couples to escape.
I used to watch a Youtube channel where a guy had trained several dogs ( some look like pit bulls, others terriers, some just plain mutts ) to tolerate his trained weasels, and they go into places with bad rat infestations and have the weasels go down the tunnels and start in on the rat murdering. When the rats flee the tunnels, the dogs are there to take them out fast. I think weasels or ferrets would be able to sub in for the smaller dogs in fluffy hunting as well! But this is about dogs, so we can just use the same strategy for fluffy hunting with the bonus of fluffies not being as smart or fast as rats.
Speaking of weasels, ferrets and other mustelids, they’d be excellent for driving fluffies out of burrows and other tight spaces. They’d probably wouldn’t be able to drag an adult fluffy out of a hole, but they’d certainly be able to kill it.
@bMori With regards to yorkies, it depends on the size of the,. Some are teacup sized, while others get bigger - my wife’s yorkie is about 6kg and his sire was even bigger.
I definitely agree they’re the epitome of small dog complex - willing to take on anything, regardless of size. He will even take on the lawnmower when it starts up, but he refuses to go near the hoover when that’s running - most likely due to puppyhood trauma.
