Had the itch to draw minutes-old newborn chirpies. Lots of them. And then another itch to draw one with a birth defect that snowballed into the idea that alicorns normally have something wrong with them. A “perfect” alicorn is insanely rare.
A random good mama breeding mare and her owner bring six healthy, bright foals into the world, but it seems the alicorn is a bit lacking.
I know I’m nuts but fussy chirpies poke at the “I must cuddle it” part of my brain. So the mummah gets to keep her little stubby baby as a reward, and because her owner wants to try breeding it later.
And the common birth defects in alicorns. Typically they are missing extremities, sometimes they have extra ears or wings. Most can survive just fine with some extra help, they just look kinda fucked up.
