Sometimes bad memories surface, but then Maverick takes a deep breath and smells Nycota. He smells a tiny bit like his father, but he also smells like love and home and strange mares. Captain didn’t smell like love.

Love this one for multiple reasons.
I find this piece very cathartic. I can empathize with poor Maverick. And I’m glad Maverick at least has someone to rely on when he’s having PTSD.
I’m happy that I also have a “special friend” to soothe me through times like that.
